Original Post
So today I picked up a 96 GSR. Its got 151k on the motor. Motor runs pretty smooth.

The major issues that its got is:

  • the damage on the front drivers fender (seller gave me a replacement)
  • the brakes need to be replaced ASAP
I got the car for a decent price so I wasnt worried about the problems.

Other than the front corner of the car the rest of the body is pretty clean.

So tonight I bought new brake pads all around and new rotors for the front. I will be replacing them tomorrow. Should get rid of the constant squealing lol.

I also plan on washing and cleaning her a little bit too.

For now I plan on just fixing all the small things and cleaning up the body a bit. Definitely getting rid of the yellow high beams and front turn signals. I also plan on getting some new wheels and tires. Its currently on steelies and snow tires.

Here is a couple of quick pics I snapped on my phone. Ill post up some more tomorrow when I get a chance.

So I decided to keep my AC at least till after the Dragon Run. Im not sure if it even works or not since I havent used it since I bought the car. I got an AC belt leftover from when we did my buddys motor swap that im gonna throw on there and see what happens. Since I had to remove my 2nd fan to install my header I will only be able to use it on the freeways which wont be an issue when driving cross country lol. I did happen to receive my AC delete plug today from Honda which I guess I will store away for now.

On another issue I have been having trouble with one of my center caps. There nothing fancy just knockout caps that I got from Lowes but one of them just wont stay in. Ive replaced it twice but no matter what I do it would come loose and fall off while driving. I decided to just cut my losses and order some Honda center caps. From what I have read is that the center caps from a Honda Odyssey fit perfectly which is what I ordered. They were only about $20 shipped for all 4. Im planning on just plasti dipping them and installing them. They should be here tomorrow so ill post more pics when I install them.

So yesterday I decided to remove my power steering belt and see how I liked not having power steering and it felt pretty good. Like alot of people say it definitely helps give you a better feel for the road which I like. Decided that I would just go ahead and pull the power steering system today following Meltman's guide and looping the lines.

It wasnt too bad removing it but was definitely messy. Got power steering fluid all over the garage. Nothing a little kitty litter wont fix though lol. I love the extra room under the hood and got rid of a couple lines that were always in the way of everything.

Took a quick cell phone pic

After removing the power steering I went and washed the car. Also made sure to spray under the hood where the power steering fluid leaked out.

Also forgot to add that I ordered some Team-Integra decals. I ordered them a week ago and checked the status on them today and they are "in production." Not sure if thats how long they normally take to make but ill be glad when I get them.

So I got tomorrow off and I am planning on tackling the painting of my rims. Ill probably pick up the supplies in the morning. Havent decided if I wanna go flat black or semi flat yet just depends on what they got.

I also forgot to post up that the Odyssey center caps I got for my rims fit perfectly. I know for a fact that these ones wont fall out since a couple of them almost wouldnt go in. Ill post some pics of the finished product when I get done.

Since Ill have the car up in the air and the tires off ill probably keep it on jackstands until this weekend. I plan on pulling the front spindles so I can finally take them in to get my extended studs/front wheel bearings installed Saturday.

Depending on how my paycheck looks Friday, I plan on making a nice suspension related purchase

So I painted my rims yesterday. They turned out pretty well but I ran out of paint so its a little light in a couple spots. Autozone only had 2 cans of VHT flat black so I had to make due with that. They dont look too bad but im a perfectionist when it comes to that stuff so im gonna find another can to throw on before mounting them.

Today I went ahead and got everything ready to get the wheel bearings and extended studs pressed in tomorrow. Im gonna try and suck up to the shop that does the work on our company vehicles and see if they can do me a favor

Koyo wheel bearing part number

Also noticed when I look at both of the old wheel bearings that one of them had some dust/dirt on the backside. Is this ok? Or should there be something on the axles to keep this stuff out? Just would like to know before I throw in a brand new bearing and have the same thing happen when it shouldnt.

going by this illustration and my vehicle application, i dont have part #1 or know what it is. it could be a seal. But I think it just depends on if you have ever removed or replaced an axle or ball joint before.

and also looks like that the driver side is dirtier?? ever have oil leak or boot bust on that side?

#293 ·
ya ita a metal dust shield and it locks into the knuckle between the bearing and axel .. good to have but not realy needed
Good to know

so did you change your mind about plasti-dip?
Not exactly change my mind. Used it mostly to figure out if I liked the black vs. gunmetal with polished lip. Plasti dip is pretty durable though

#294 ·
So yesterday I got my front wheel bearings and studs pressed in and everything installed. It definitely drives alot better with the new bearings in. Before I had a small hum while driving on the freeway that I always thought was just the normal sound of the tires.

Also found a local guy parting out a CGP teg. I ended up getting the hood and mirrors from him. My hood had a ton of chips and the paint was starting to crack for some reason. The new one is pretty mint it has a couple chips but pretty clean overall.

Today I also placed my order with JHPUSA for an ASR subrframe brace and 24mm swaybar

Image

Cant wait till it arrives and installed. I have always loved the look of the setup and the purple should look pretty good.

A little off topic on the teg but I did get a new addition to the garage

We were out watching the UFC fight last night at our usual sports bar and asked the owner if we could have it and said sure. Something that UFC fans can appreciate lol.

So tomorrow my ASR swaybar and subframe brace arrive! I already got the car up in the air with the PB blaster soaking on the bolts. I am sure I wont have issues with any stuck bolts since I have never had any problems with rust or stuck bolts but you never know. While im under there ill probably shoot a light coat of black paint on the control arms and subframe since it seemed pretty boring and miscolored. Should look and drive pretty nice once I finish. I am planning on installing it tomorrow and taking her for a nice drive and wash Saturday.

Got my ASR sway bar and subframe brace installed Friday night. The install wasnt too bad but definitely took some time. I think the hardest part was crawling underneath the car when it was on the ground to torque everything down.

For the driving difference it made a HUGE improvement! The car feels solid around corners and has barely any body roll at all. THE ASR setup compliments the Koni/Ground Controls perfectly. I cant wait till the Dragon Run this year so I can really put it to the test.

Bling bling!

So ive been thinking about what I wanna do next to my car. What I got planned is upgrading my radiator to a Mishimoto. I found a site that sells the regular Mishimoto radiator for less than $200 plus shipping and also the X-line version for $250 plus shipping. The X-line radiator is apparently 25% larger than the regular and is also triple core compared to the regular dual core. Im not sure which route I will go yet since I havent seen much info or reviews on the X-line. Ill have to do some measuring before I place my order and see how much extra space I got between my header and radiator. At the same time I will also be ordering the Mishimoto hoses and a fan.

The next thing I want to buy is a set of JDM ITR Recaros. After I upgraded my sway bar it made it more obvious how much the factory seats suck. The bolsters just arent big enough and it seems like I have to focus more on keeping myself in the seat rather than the car on the road. I would like a set of black ones but havent seen any in good condition. The black ones seem to fade weird on the sides and are more obvious than the reds plus alot harder to find. My buddy a pretty clean set of red ones that he is trying to sell that I might pick up later on if I cant find a clean set of black ones.

Work is kinda slow right now since we are in between projects but we are about to be VERY busy soon. Hopefully I can cross one of these of the list within a few weeks.

Also I am planning on booking our cabin for the Dragon Run tomorrow! Cant wait till August

#302 ·
I have read a few places (I wish I could find where, or "why" exactly) that the dual core Mishimoto rad was better than the triple.. I'll look around for it. But I fully support the notion of getting a full rad now. Especially with that trek you are making for the Dragon lol

#304 · (Edited)
I believe it has to do with more air being able to pass through the dual core, vs. the triple. Plus a full size, double core aluminum rad with two fans (shrouds as well) will be damn hard to "overheat".. With a B series. What kills it is the A/C condenser sitting right in front with its TINY fins. Another reason why maybe an extra core wouldn't help much.

EDIT: I toyed with the idea of a remote mount condenser.. lol, to put it somewhere out of the front grill. Not cost affective at all ha, but it would certainly help the high HP with A/C dudes.

So weve been getting constant rain here. It doesnt bother me much during the week when Im working but on the weekends its gotta be nice out! Nothing like sitting at home doing nothing because its raining. I did change my oil today though.

Went with the Valvoline 5-30 Max Life again and a fresh OEM oil filer. I am glad that my magnetic drain plug didnt catch anything so thats a plus.
Image

When I got this motor it had alot of sludge built up on the head so I am hoping that it is slowly getting cleaner with every oil change. I am planning on getting my valve cover repainted soon so hopefully it will look cleaner than it did last time I swapped them.

Also I got my cabin booked for the Dragon Run so at least thats something to look forward too

If you want a good cleaner oil dump in some pennzoil platinum or ultra.

Also I am a big fan of BG moa. A great oil additive that has a lot of zinc and anti corrosives.

Also completly eliminates the cold start engine tap that happens in the b series.

I would shy away from these "high mileage" oils as they have seal swellers in them which can cause more problems after you switch to a different oil.

I would do 2-3 change intervals with the pennzoil and BG, and then use strictly honda genuine synthetic blend. The synthetic blend has all of the goodness of a synthetic but has the flow rate of a conventional which is much more suited to a 100k + mile engine.

My b18c1 has 130k miles on it and does not burn or leak a drop of oil. It seems to seal perfectly (piston rings, valve seals) in the engine. A+ stuff if you ask me!

Nice job on the rear suspension.
I agree, I love the feel of the sway bar/ASR brace upgrade around the turns.

funny, i was also looking into either the Koyo or Mishimoto Rad's. Havent decided yet.
Great looking build. keep it up.
