RFID Chip Locking/Car starting

well I was thinking of doing a s2k start button... but then my sister got a new 08 altima that has the smart key where you just have to have it on you and the car starts at the push of a button... so I was think of taking acura's system out of an RL or some other import car and hooking it up to the teg, expensive but great security upgrade... but I saw this video and wanted to take it a step further

RFID CAR KEY

I thought the idea was pretty sweet so I did some searching and came across this

Ebay kits

and started to get some ideas what do you all think???

but you can get similar kits from online stores for $100 that can be programed to more then just the key fobs that come with the kit... so you could put it in something custom like an implanted chip or a ACURA key.... just think about the thief that tries to steal your teg breaks open your steering column to find that your key cylinder isn't even connected... so would he waste the time to dig for the wires or just make a run for it????

This looks really cool, except I would do it differently... if I knew how.
I would have the RFID reader recognize the fob/key/whatever, give me ten seconds to step on the clutch and hit that pretty S2K start button on the dash and go.
But figuring out how to not need the key in the ignition would be the hindrance I think.

Chapter three of this book is dedicated to RFID and cars it seems.

Actually, now that I think about it, I would need three readers;
1. Disarm/unlock & arm/lock
2. Trunk pop
3. Enable car start

Setting up a reader to pop the hood could be interesting, thereby eliminating the need for the latch.

Consider a retrofit RFID reader a convenience item, not a security feature. It offers no more security than a standard keyless entry (aka none) does.

Same goes for an RFID start vs. a typical remote start feature of an alarm. Just because it's part of the alarm doesn't mean it's for security!

In fact, I'd go so far as to say that some RFID add-ons for starting a car would reduce the security of the car, depending on how it hooks up and performs the electrical actions of starting the car (relays/etc.).

^^ Listen to Cheap here man. I really follow tech and actually have two of those kits that you have the ebay link to sitting in my closet and I can tell you - you would not be happy with them for this applications. The kit has some range issues and has terrible sensor pickup lobes too... you should find a nicer kit if you are dead set on this project.

That said, if I were you, I would only do this as something thats 'cool', because it can only reduce your security. The encryption on that kit is beyond pitiful - a hacker that wanted in and knew what they were doing would be able to steal the fob key and gain access to your car/starter (or whatever you decided to connect it to) with minimal time, effort and a reasonable amount of distance from the actual fob. I'm not familiar with the RL's starter, however I can't stress to you enough how much of a bad idea it would be to use this as your main security method.

Let us know how you are going to proceed so we can help you if you do continue on with this project.

ps - if you ever wanted to get an implanted chip such as in the video clip, the RFID system that you linked to is currently incompatible with implanted chips.

well that kit was an example if I really was going to get I would get this

but wouldn't help your security having your ignition wires tucked in your dash then on your steering column??
If you did it well, then probably. But as it is in the video from your initial post you can hotwire the car if you trace the antenna in the window to the circuit board
