I've been searching but can't seem to find the stock primary length and width. What are the stock specs and is this header worth $129? I know that you get what you pay for but if this is truly a DC copy then I think it would definetly be worth the money.

Here is a pic of the stainless GSR header. This one seems to be a 4-1 1 piece. The header specs I'm inquiring about are a 4-2-1 2 piece ceramic header.

I really believe in the saying "If you can't pay, then don't play" I think you'd be better off with a piece of mind buying a DC Sport header knowing the quality and craftmenship is well done.

I'm not sure what the title of the thread was but MD wanted to know some measurements, so I got some measurements. I will get all specs from them, hopefully, by tonight. Remember price does not reflect performance. It is just usually a way to determine quality. If these headers do have the same specs as DC Sports would you still pay that extra couple hundred for the same header w/a different badge?

Price does reflect quality. Price also came from trust of the company's name. Reliability is more important to me. Maybe they has the same specs but what aboutn their stainless steel theyr'e using to make the header, is it really stainless steel? I'm not bashing your idea of buying a cheaper yet similar spec header, I'm jsut giving you a heads up. I bought an OBX exhaust before and after 2 months I got rid of it and got a Comptech exhaust.

Just be careful I guess is what I'm saying. Did they mention the material they use?

 

Alvin -- stainless steel. I'm not sure what grade though.

 

I'm not sure but I think all headers are made from 1018 mild steel. I'll update whenever I get a response from their support department. I was saying that price doesn't ever reflect quality because we all know it does, but then again my ebay intake performs just as well as my old AEM and DC sports performs almost as well as Spoon, Toda, Mugen, etc. and look at the major difference in price. I always like to feel like I got a deal w/out sacrificing performance. If I had the money I would call up John at Hytech right now and order a new header but for some reason that thousand dollar price tag doesn't justify the gains to me.

This was the email response I got from one of the sales reps. If anyone has any other questions just post them and I'll ask him.

"Hello, this is Eddie from Megan Racing. Our headers for the 98-01 Integra GSR are stainles steel. They are a 4-1 with a trapezoidal merge, the merge provides more ground clearance. They have near equal length primaries. Our headers are a JDM style. If you have any further questions please feel free to contact me."

 

thanks for offering to get the specs on this copy cat of the JDM 4-1 for us.

the length is helpful but we knew this header ends at the stock cat location anyway. I think we all knew it wasn't longer than the stock header.

you already got the info that it is a 2.5 in. collector.


the other important dimensions are:

how thick is the tubing (i.e. gauge of 304 stainless steel) so we can determine the inner and outer diameters.

the port area at the flange.

AND

the outer diameters of: the primaries at the flange joint, just before the primary bend, just after the primary bend where it straightens out, just before the collector at the merge.

this will tell us if the primary diameters are stepped.
it doesn't look like a stepped header and so we can assume your dimensions for the "downpipe" is for the entire primary diameter.

this will also tell us the performance potential of the header compared to others that come on here (eg. same as USDM DC 4-1 and if it's similar then you can compare the prices).

a 1/8 (0.125) in. difference in diameter is significant.


* Edit Added:

The diameter of the collector tubes is 1.5"Wx1.3"tall, the downpipe outlet is 2", fits with stock pipes.

PS. I went out to get my old GSR USDM 2 in. collector DC Ceramic 4-1 from the garage.



The primaries OD is 1.77 in. (vs. 1.5 in. on the RS/LS/SE Megan OD). The DC is not stepped as well. The collector ID is 1.89 in. The flange port inner dimension runs 1.5 in. in height and 1.88 in. in width.

The length is shorter than 20 in. if you measure from the donut base to the end of the bend.: I got 15 in. on the DC but this is for an OBD1/OBD2a B18C. The 20 in. length is for the B18A/B and OBD2b B18C.

So the B18C DC is significantly bigger than this B18A/B Megan in primaries diameter .

If I was in the "cheap 2 in. collector header" market and not interested in big hybrid 2.5 in. header power, then at least you now know that you should go with an OBD2b GSR/ITR DC 4-1 instead of this Megan LS 4-1 for your LS if you are aiming to upgrade the engine for 160-170 whp N/A. The lengths on the OBD2b (2000-2001) GSR header should be the same as your LS headers.

This header would be fine for a 1.8L N/A LS with i/h/c/e but if you're looking for a serious upper rpm powerband with cam/IM and maybe headporting, then I'd move up to get the added primary diameter.


For those of you in the market for a cheap 2.5 in. 4-1 (eg. GSR , ITR, or high CR big cam LS) , you must compare this to the JDM 98 Spec R Honda OEM 4-1 or the DC JDM 4-1 in terms of sizing (port size, diameter, length) , flange quality, weld joint quality, merge collector size and quality, and steel grade and thickness and finish. If it stacks up the same then you go by price.


So it is worth looking at specs and comparing rather than taking someone's word for it that it "looks" the same and therefore is the same. You can get some unexpected insights.

 

Okay guys, need to clarify a few things. The MR 4-2-1 2 piece ceramic header isn't worth the price tag on the site, in my opinion. It will only be slightly better than the stock manifold. In any post other than the first we are talking about a 4-1 stainless header for a GSR. After seeing the specs MD posted I would have to say it would be more beneficial to save your money and go for the DC. I am still going to post the specs on the GSR header just so the info. is actually here on the site.

BTW thanks for taking the time to measure your old header to make this comparison easier for us.

seriously, thanks for getting the specs here. Now we have some objective numbers to compare with instead of idle speculation and opinions which are worth the value of the advice they are given (including mine).

if I were an LS owner wanting only i/h/c/e and 160-165 whp (what most "built" B18A/B street NA motors top out at) then I'd get the B18C version of that header because the sizing is larger and THEN compensate for the shorter length by adding an extension onto the B pipe (after removing the bottleneck at the flange that joins up to the cat's flange and using a 2.25 in. system).
