Considering leather seats, but what type?

Hey T.I.,

I'm a new member here, but nonetheless a very big Integ fan. I look forward to learning tons of stuff about my car from this site.

Currently I have three things I thought about doing to my car. HID lights, a Dash Kit, and Leather seats(at least for the front two seats). Now, I think cool leather seats, possibly those sweet racing seats you see in the decked out cars, would have the greatest impact on the appearance of my car, so I'm looking into that.

Help me out. You have altogether new leather seats, and then you have leather seat covers that you attach or sew on by some method. That's the two options right, or is there more? Also, anybody know any good sites, brands, places to look for this, etc.? I'm debating whether to go with just plain black, or get the cool two colored racing kind(say, black on the outer and on the inner a blue...it will match my steering wheel cover which is black and has a blue part).

Thanks so much for your help.

First do a little research on seat safety. Don't go buy some seats because they look snazy. They might look cool but they might not stand up to a 5 mph ass end bump.

once you're done on the safety aspect, try to find somebody that has the same seat that you intend to buy. Sit in them and see if you actually like them.

You'll be suprized how many name brand seats and uncomfortable as **** to sit in, some Recaro's and Bride's are ****ing un-bearable to drive around in everyday.

You don't like the idea of going with blue? I'm trying to make the interior stand out a lot more. My idea was to do some matching blue.

^That picture is extreme, I'm only talking about blue seats and a blue steering wheel cover, and maybe a few small things.

Okay. I'm probably going to have to ask people on here about seats they've personally used or read reviews because I know hardly any people in person that are into customizing their car as much as I am.

Welcome to TI!

Personally i would suggest a nice fabric/microsuede seat instead of leather, leather is hot in the summer and cold in the winter. also keep it black for the win!

Stay away from Ractive seats, i made that mistake in my celica but you can see how they look in my cardomain link below

btw what color is your car?

Okay...So what was wrong with the Ractive seat? It looked great. I'm guessing its comfort wasn't good?

Okay, well if everyone suggests black I may go with something else than seats to make my car stand out more.
The biggest issue with Ractive/other knock off seats are safety. These cars have not been DOT tested and have a high risk of injury in the event of an accident. It is important when researching an aftermarket seat to buy from reputable company that has spent the time and money to get their seats FIA approved. It's an expensive research and design process that ultimately produces a very safe seat.

In the end get what you want for how you like it look. Most here would stray away from flashy items purely because of theft. That sounds depressing, but it is a reality we must recognize with this sport. Thieves' greed ruins this sport for everyone.

^^^What he said, My ractive seats looked really nice but one broke after about six months. if you have a silver teg RED Bride seats would look amazing, but thats just me

also id reccomend loosing the blue steering wheel cover, i havent even seen it and i know i personally wouldnt like it lol

Well blue is the color to go with for me. My calipers are painted blue. The interior custom lighting is all blue. The ground effects lights(currently undergoing replacement on the sides and rear) are all blue. The door handle lights are blue, etc. I'll probably be replacing my dash lights(speedometer area) with blue too once I figure out how to do it.

So what seat BRANDs would you recommend(that are safe, etc./doesn't have to be leather, just cool looking)?

Welcome to TI!!! First of all make a plan...(Ex. for my car I decided I want to paint it champ white and have a red and black interior.) When you see deals on things that fit your scheme buy it.

Second of all, form first hand experience, Do not buy knock off seats. one of my friends was showing off in his CRX, while I was in it, and spun out. My seat broke and almost impaled me with metal tubes. Saving a few hundred bucks an bargain seats isn't worth dying for.

Also keep in mind that leather seats suck for cornering because you slide around....ALOT.

And Always check the measurements on the seats before you buy them. Compare the measurements to your stock seat and take mental note of differences and how they will feel (because its not always possible to try seats out first). Take a realistic look at your body type and ask the seller what would fit best. (If they say the most expensive seat that should tell you something).

Have fun building your car!!!!

Do you still have the recaro crash test picture Ryan? That would help to stress the point very well here.

^ Sweet seats bwt

Welcome to the site. Like other people are saying, I recommend going with a DOT approved seat rather than something cheap for the looks. You could go with the Spoon look, with most of the products being silver and blue.

Well here's a question...what about seat covers? Assuming I'm willing to run the risk of being flashier to possible thieves, what about a cool black and blue seat cover as opposed to a whole new seat?

I'm by no means ruling out new seats, so I thank you for your help. I've been doing a lot of research and looking. Your posts help me a lot.

IMO seat covers just look really cheap and ricey.. and unless you have a couple grand laying around for legit racing seats, i would suggest just sticking to the factory cloth seats. If you really want leather, go with some black GSR leather seats. Not only are they fairly affordable but they also look really nice. Like others have mentioned, leather gets ass-burning hot in the summer time, especially if your in Cali.

I have a local auto appolstry (sp?) shop that showed me some intergra seats they fitted with leather seat cover replacements (the ones where they remove the oem cover and adhere the leather with some kind of adhesive that they heat up while the seat cover is on.) When they heated them up and were smoothing it out, it looked totally sexy; Probably even better than oem leather.

once they were done they looked great and fit awsome. Then I saw they were goin in a civic and I kinda laughed. Maybe check out something like that...

Hoekay so...

SEAT COVERS FTL!!! ewww no seat covers

Try to find a set of OEM GSR leather seats, super clean! =) ;)

Yea that sounds nice. I'm going to call around some local places later and ask if they have any services like that. Leather Seat Cover purchase and installation...something like that.

Why do you laugh because it was a Civic? Sorry for being a noob, I just recently jumped into the Teg fandom. lol

You know, it really sucks, but one time I called all the junk yards/salvage yards even relatively nearby and got nothing.

And I've got a list of parts I could use off there.

So are all the interior parts the same for gen 3 tegs? Or do they vary some by year...?
