Wiring an Aftermarket Deck

Hey I was wondering how to wire an aftermarket wiring harness to an aftermarket deck. From my understanding, the aftermarket wiring harness plugs together with the stock wiring harness and from there, the loose wires from the aftermarket wiring harness are to be connected with the loose wires from the new deck. Is this correct? How do I know what wires to connect with what wires? Thanks all.

yep, you're right. there should be instructions with the harness and the head unit indicating what color wires go to what. just match them up. 12v to 12v, switched to switched, right front speaker to right front speaker, ect... you get the picture.
