Not really free to do what you like. There are limits to what you can do because of the laws. Making 1000hp car doesn't make it street legal anymore or some state that req carb legal tags on parts and strict enforce laws like california. Same things goes for everything else.

The reason people do this is because everyone has their own taste. Some want their car to be white or black or even lime green. In order to make ourself happy and satisfied we mod our car. This also show people that we are all different otherwise we all be living in a cream color house with red rooftop and we all be wearing the same color clothe and style and same hair doo.

 

It's a form of art.

I did the same type of topic for my senior project. Automobiles are a symbol of american history. Its a way to get where you want when ever you want while looking the way you want. In ameria we have become the most dependent on our automobiles more than any other country in the world. It is a great way to symbolize your personal freedom.

driving for me has been a love since I understood the concept. it was really the only video games I ever relly bought, even as recently as my ps2. so being that driving is such a joy for me and my car such a crusial instrument in the process I actally feel a bond to it and its not even just the modifying but taking care of my car that is a joyful experience. and if I am modifying it, at the end of the day I know it will be to either A) enchance the preformance, which makes driving more pleasurable or B) enchances the driving experience some how

 

Not only to make it unique and personal, but to perfect something that is imperfect.

 

To stand out from the crowd.
To have something that is your very own that you've created.
To make money perhaps.
To get that adrenaline rush.
To look foreward to driving your car, everytime.

For me, it's seeing out of the corner of my eye heads turning as i drive by. It's when you meet somebody new and give them a ride and the instant as they see your car they say "damn, that thing is sweet." It's stopping at a street light and having little kids gawking over your car and asking you to rev it up. It's seeing certain headlights in my rear view mirror. It's the feeling i get when i'm having a ****ty day, i get into my car and run through the gears- and at least for those few moments everything is alright.

Edit: It's posting pics here on TI and having 4 pages of positive comments from my peers in a mere couple of hours. Things like that tell you that you've done something right, and that feeling of being respected is enough to put a smile on my face.

That is why i mod my car, and i could go on all day.

I mod my car because, if the car is stock, I'm one of many with the same car. But, with each and every well-picked mod, my car starts to represent what I like instead of just what a factory in Suzuka set out to produce. If you ask someone with a JDM front end and someone else with a CL front end (mistakenly called a "Cali Type R") why they chose what they did, they'll probably tell you that they just wanted a car that suits their tastes. And, from ricers to true enthusiasts, it's a common view.

I've always been in to cars. It feels good to be able to drive something you can be proud of. Sure you can buy an expensive ass car and be proud of that too, but this is the more personalized and sensible route in my opinion. I previously bought a luxury car that I loved but eventually found out that I worried so much about the car and the mileage that I put into it that I couldn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. My joy was short lived. I love my teg, am proud of it and don't mind driving it any length of distance. When it eventually starts to die, I plan to swap or rebuild the motor, get a new tranny and ride her for another 300+ miles! Basically, the customization of a car can be compared to clothing- the style we choose to dress our rides in are dictated by our location, personality and budget.

 

areu serious it's like saying y breath or y watch that movie or y u walk like that.. it's simple because i can and i wanna be different be unique better than the rest... just not another immitator but an inovater..(sorry for the bad spelling)

 

I like to have nice things. I take pride in my car because I have done most of the work on it and it gives me a sense of pride, that I made it what it is, and it performs well, etc.

 

I think cars are a big hobby because they are everywhere.And modify them has gone on atleast since the 50's we are just the new age.But it is something that you can show your creativity,and express your own styles.For me I dont think it is something that I will ever not do.I have tried to walk away from it before,but I think for anyone that does it probaly is a small part of that person.(their car)

 

I started with installing a new headunit, an amp, and speakers in my car. I wanted to do this because music is extremely important to me and it always amazes me how much of a different feeling you get when music comes out of a good system. I also wanted to install an alarm because I didn't want my car stolen. When I took it to the local shop, I was quoted $1300 to do everything that I wanted to do. "Forget that!," I thought, "I'll just try it myself." The car alarm install taught me that it is possible to tear your car apart, you just gotta be careful so that you can put it back together. With TI, it's possible to do a lot of things to your car that you've always had on your mind, but haven't enough money to pay the mechanic to do. You can check your fluids, install new brake components, etc.

 

It feels really good to park your car, get out, arm the alarm, and while walking away from it, look back and say, "that's my car! I own that."

... It's a sense of pride. Knowing others want exactly what you have makes you feel good about yourself. It feels good to get compliments on something you have spent so much time and money on.

I only wish I still had the car that formed these thoughts for me ... but she is gone.. taken from me.

Soon enough, however, I will have these feelings with my Type-S.
