Wheel compatibility

I was looking for some stock-ish wheels (like hubs off of an old LX civic or something) when a guy at a local salvage yard told me the only wheels that will fit my 99 GS-r were these four types of wheels, only offered on certain years of integras. He gave me the list his computer printed out. I don't remember what was what, but it was stuff like '94-97 acura integra LS thin spoke rim' '98-99 acura integra web rim' and stuff like that. I'd be specific but I don't remember which ones they were and I didn't keep the piece of paper. I just gave a bit of an 'Uhhh....' and asked if I could just get a 100x4 set of wheels. He argued with me for a while, saying he used to be an acura-honda technician and that other wheels will NOT work. I know that any wheel with a 100x4 bolt pattern will work, but is there something that could be special that might make the factory only recommend specific wheels?

As long as the offset is not too far off from what the stock wheels are, and the center hub bore is not too small to fit onto our hubs, you should be fine.

Many aftermarket rims have to be used in conjunction with plastic hub centering rings that serve to properly align the wheel before you torque the lugs down. This is because the hub bores are large enough to work with many different vehicles.

He's right (or what you're hearing him say) on part. You can't just get a 4x100 bolt pattern rim...well you can but it won't always work out the best, offset plays a part in whether they stick out or rub or work like they should. But he'd be wrong saying not all integra rims would fit, any 94-01 teggy (exc. ITR) will have interchangeable rims since the chassis are are the same.
