Wheel Alignment, lowered vehicles, help

ok i got a wheel alignment the other day, and they told me with my ride being lowered they say they were not supposed to align it to regular oem alignment. so i still have bad camber. is this true? i have camber kits for front and rear. so they can put it to original specs for the alignment. I called another shop and they said the same thing.. "you have to comp for the drop, so the camber wont be exact like as if you hadn't lowered it." which i think is bs because what does a lowered car have anything to do with your tires being crooked and wearing down your tires faster.

what do you guys think?

edit:

does anyone know the factory specs on a 99 integra. this is the alignment report i got from pep boys.

Caster:
left front= 1.30 degrees
right front= 1.12 degrees

camber:
left front= -3.38 degrees
left rear= -1.02 degrees
right front= -3.48 degreees
right rear= -1.64 degrees

toe:
left front= 0 degrees
left rear= -0.03 degrees
right front= 0 degrees
right rear= 0.04 degrees

they already did it, after it was done i asked if everything was straight and he said well, its not at original specs, but it drives straight. he said all lower cars are done like that.. but i dont want to wear out my brand new tires! and you can tell too that the camber is off.. looking at it from the front. the tires curve out like this -> //(oo oo)\\ , lol does that look like an integra?!?

i was told by a shop that they weren't suppose to align my car after they already had done it because i had just redone the suspension myself.... but this was a local discount auto/ tire shop too

and i had also gone in complaining about the work they had done, so they were giving me a hard time anyway

if you look up specs for what it should be aligned to and ask the shop to put it exactly like you ask, then you should be good... i think

how much are you lowered? I really wouldn't worry about tire wear from camber...it'll only be an issue if you're dropped around 2.5-3+ inches. It's been said time and time again, out of spec toe will kill your tires MUCH MUCH faster than camber will.

If I were you, and if you haven't dropped your car more than 2.5", sell your camber kits, make sure the toe is aligned, and you'll be golden.

my car is lowered low, probably around the 2.5" drop. i know its possible for them to align my wheels at factory specs. but they say your not supposed to for some reason.. i dont know the reason.

platinumriday93, what do you mean they "just dont want to take the chance" chance of what? haveing off camber? im not sure what you mean, i just dont see why having a lower car compared to a normal height should make a diff on the camber/toe specs on factory settings.. its either straight or not. but thats what i am asking. i just cant see why they dont want to align it to factory settings just because its lowered.. ?

You know what a good shop is? one that aligns it to what you tell them you want. If they think they know your car better than you, then you need to find another shop.

It's one thing if they can't do much about it (because in stock form the teg only allows toe adjustment), but if you have camber kits and they won't adjust that...they should not have your business.

some people dont like big o' tires but the two i called allowed me to specify what settings i want dialed in. They told me as long as they could get it up on the rig it was cool.

I went to one of the two. Had beater LS mesh so i didnt really care if they scratched it too much. They did use the adhesive weights instead of the clip on ones which was nice (i also had it balanced)

Factory specs have nothing to do with a car being lowered or not. Suspension alignment specs from the factory are a bunch of angles telling you how your wheels should sit. They consist of toe, camber, and caster angles. Set toe and camber to zero (or whatever you want) and you're golden. Our caster cannot be changed.

Find another shop.

When I went in to get my car aligned, I was told that my rear camber bushings were ****ed and I needed new trailing arm bushings before they can do alignment. In that case, they were right. My rear cambers were really messed up and the trailing arm bushing was broken. The car aligned just fine after that.

well, at least where i come from, some shops that i have been to say that it takes more time to align a lowered car and that the lowered car will most likely be back a lot faster then a stock car because they're afraid the alignment might not hold. therefore, taking up too much of there time and costing them more money and business. i think all alignments are the same procedure regardless of the vehicles high. there is no compensation for hieght other then getting a camber kit.

all the alignment shops i've been to to get quotes had no problem putting the specs to stock. but they all charged me extra to adjust the camber kits. ended up paying $150 to a small shop that specializes in lowered cars (they had an inground, flat level alignment rack). NTB wanted to charge $100 per wheel to adjust camber plus alignment costs so yeah half a grand.

i think the toe could be adjusted better. If i'm not mistaken the toe should be slightly positive on the rear..just very very slightly (like +0.05) to promote stability at speed. Toe should be zeroed out in the front. As you have it now it looks like the rear end wants to go to the right, with negative on one and positive on the other.

Your alignment can be set to factory specs with camber kits for a reason. The reason these shops are giving you guys these excuses is because they just don't want to bother, and with lowered cars there is sometimes a higher chance the alignment will come out of specs faster.

It does take longer to do an alignment when you need to adjust camber so some shops will charge more.

Fact of the matter is that is is possible to get your alignment done how you want it.

i have had my teg lowered with h&R sport springs. I have always had the same problem. I put an aftermarket camber kit on it and was still also told they cant do the alignment according to factory spec because the suspension was modified. Now I find out that is a crock? I need an alignment after I change out my shocks.

What should I tell them. factory specs and adjust the tow accordingly?

i know how to fix your problem :) . firth sorry for my English, okay when you lower your car you have to buy the camber kit example this is the one i buy : LOWER CONTROL ARM+LOWERING SPRING+CAMBER KIT DC1 DC2 EG | eBay . after you have instal it all . you need to check the camber . you can adjusted , it have to be level 180 degrees. the back and front . and after that you get under the car and adjust the aliment to make sure you car go stray . that all maybe you will have to take the tires off like 4 times good luck
