Transmission mount bolt

Well I have been having weird slop issues with my engine/trans and I found out today that the bolt that connects the black transmission mount to the trans is stripped. The bolt just spins inside the transmission bolt hole. How am I to go about getting this fixed. Would I be able to have it re-tapped for a bigger bolt or am I looking at getting another tranny case?

I don't have a place I can drop my trans on my own so this will be strictly on shop time.

Anyone have any ideas on what I should do?

Also how the hell would someone strip this bolt out? I assume it was one of the last couple places I had work on my car but I don't think I would be able to narrow it down.

Edit: this is the bolt that connects to the black bracket by the cat under the car. Not the mount on top under the air box just for clarification.

the bolt goes through the casing but the actual threaded part is the rear T bracket. if you want to save yourself a headache, take it to a shop, because there is literally very little to no room to extract that bolt out. unless is you can use a hacksaw and cut off the threaded or stripped part, and then beat it out with a chisel, its a fat chance you yourself can get it out unless you have adequate tools

So thats the bolt size. Where can I find a helicoil kit for that size?

It would be M14 1.5 right? I can't find any that can go 67mm deep.

This guy had the same problem

Also:

I am looking into Time-serts because they look much better than a helicoil.
What depth of insert do I need for this thread?

Well I got a email back from time-sert.

Hello,
Use M14x1.5 kit p/n 1415F price $115.95.
Kit includes all the tools and 5 inserts of a 24.5mm length.

The tooling has square drives so if you have square drive sockets
that will make it easy to hold the square using a 3/8 ratchet.
If you don't have a square drive socket you may optionally try using
a 12 point socket as this can drive a square better than a standard
6 sided socket.
We sell a 3pc. socket that will drive all the tools p/n 70940
found on useful tools here: Price $30.83

115.95 seems like a lot of money just to fix one damn thread. Anyone know where I can get this kit cheaper? Would a shop charge me less to just re-thread one bolt hole?

The auto parts stores around here really suck and I doubt they will have a good kit. I don't really want to have to go a size bigger because its really hard to get metric bolts of that size around here. Plus I want to retap a prelude oil pan drain bolt I got so it can be used again.

Is there a cheaper kit that would work for my purposes?

You don't need a time sert for that particular application. If it was a head bolt or main bolt, I would definitely recommend a time sert. A helicoil will work just fine for this. Look into permacoil they are good and less expensive way of fixing this problem. Kit # 3221-M14FEbay This should do just fine. I guarantee you that bolt didn't just vibrate the threads out of there. Some previous repair caused the removal of those bolts, and in the process of removing or instaling them back, they got stripped. You are the unfortunate one to inherit the problem. Good luck.

I would like to update this saying that this is not what is needed. The coils are not long enough and they only make them at a max of 28mm deep.

If this happens to anyone else I would recommend tap and die and use a bigger bolt.
TOLD YA! :p
