... but i'm really interested in this too, or interested really in any way to improve steering feel - remove slop and get more accurate road feel.

i imagine replacing the stock bushings with poly could really help. Anyone out there improved their steering? have my searches missed something?

 

i have them but i didnt install them. it came with the ES master set for my 90 RS. didnt wanna do it cuz it woulda been a pain to drop the entire rack and maybe remove the pump too. i dunno if it improves anything, but i know its a big job. gl if you do decide to do it.

 

same here. i picked up a set, but they are still collecting dust on my shelf. one of these days i'll get around to it. it is quite a chore to drop the whole steering rack though.

 

You don't have to drop the rack. You can sneak them in, although it is not easy. I replaced mine when they had less than 8,000 miles on them. Not much difference at all. The response doesn't really improve, there is just a little more vibration (feel if you want to call it this). There is not much rubber there.

 

Wow, good info. I'll think twice about doing this. Kelly, do you do track day's or autocrosses? How often do you push your car?

 

I replaced my steering rack a couple weeks ago and bam! I had the bushings and therefore i installed them, i can not notice a difference and yes it is quite a chore to drop the rack how you could get them in without dropping it i dont know cause the bushings are were it mounts to the firewalland theres all most no room in between. So my final opion on steering rack bushings is you might wanna leave them alone uless you are replacing the rack.

 

No track days or autocrosses, just everyday driving. Relative to a track or autocross, my car is seldom pushed handling wise, although I do drive briskly on the streets, safety permitting.
