Alright guys, first of all I am new to the forum, so whats up! I have a turbo 99 GSR and just the other day out of nowhere it started sputtering Here is what happened: the car will run fine in vaccuum but as soon as it begins to build boost, the car sputters and just doesnt accelerate or anything. Anybody have this happen before or know what it might be??

Is it tuned?? If your are running some type of fmu/timing retard to make up for boost its just not running right in boost because it doesnt know what to do. Your car will run very rich in boost like 8:1 air/fuel ratio and missfire. Get it tuned...if it is tuned and is just doing this all of the sudden i would sudgest check out your map sensor.

While we all support your enthusiasm and the need to tune, do try to be atlteast a little helpful...

To the original post...

Did your car always run like this or did it just start?
What is the setup? FMU? Any sort of engine management? AFC? stand-alone?

We're gonna need some details..

Ok, sputtering is going to be caused by ignition misfire, or timing, or fuel (too much or too little). Running the proper engine managment and having a professional tune your car is going to go a long way. For all we know he is running with a 12:1 FMU and 550CC injectors.

All im saying, not to be a dick, is people wonder why thier cars dont run right...it seems to be they just dont grasp the concept of of a turbo car.

Ok guys sorry for getting back so late. But here is some more info. I have had the turbo kit on now for about 10 months and it has run awesome up to now. As for tuning, I had my car professionally dyno tuned by one of the best in the country. I got my car tuned by Jeff Evans of Evans Tuning. He had the white hatch on Pinks if anybody watches that show. Anyway, I am using a P28 tuned with Neptune. 255 walbro pump, 780cc injectors, precision turbo, inline pro header, Edelbrock Victor x intake manifold, tial wastegate and blow off valve. There is some more infor for you. Thanks for all your help guys!

I had the same problem with my car just a little bit ago. It ran fine for a while after i got the car dyno tuned, then all of a sudden it would sputter like crazy under WOT. I fixed it by gapping my spark plugs closer. The spark was getting blown out by the turbo causing the car to sputter.
Just a note: The injectors i had in originally lokked fine when i took them out. Everything was burning clean and they looked great. The gap was just wrong.

The stock gap for my car was .04 and i changed it to .02 or .025 I believe.

How long ago was the car tuned? Its starting to get colder out and if the correction factors arent on then this could slightly throw the tune off. Also when does the car start to breakup? Is it an RPM related thing or just anytime you try and go into boost?

I would change the plugs and gap them pretty low. Something like .018-.020.

I mean if the plugs are fine and the tune is on it could be anything. Could be the fuel pump going out. The fuel filter is clogged. Ive even had the injector pre-screens get clogged up. Then it could be ignition related. Something like the ignitor could be going out. But from my experience that is an RPM related thing usually for me right around 5-6K is when it starts to show. The tach will stop working also if the ignitor goes out.

The thing is there could be one or many of a possible thousand problems that could be the cause. Get back to us and we can start throwing more ideas your way.

To the guy with the emanage. Get ride of the missing link. I would even say get ride of the emanage.
