Running rich and Weird noises

So sometime last week I let a friend borrow my car. Well when I got it back the first thing I noticed was that it was making a weird noise under load, almost like a belt was loose. I chalked it up to just one more thing for me to spend a day off one, and didn't think much of it.
The next day I go to start my car and it smells like it's running rich, and the noise now sounds like there's a whole in the exhaust. I haven't noticed any decrease in gas mileage, and my car isn't bogging at all.
I replaced the spark plugs last night, and the cylinder one plug seemed to be coated in oil, like the hole for the plug wasn't tight. I figured that I'd taken care of at least one of the problems I might be having, and figured that I was one step closer to solving my problems. I started up my car, took a deep breath through my nose, and realized instantly that I hadn't made any headway at all.
Then I tried to reset the ecu, following SniperX's article. It helped a little bit, but under load my car still makes a loud rattling sound.
Anybody have any idea of what's going on here? I'd really like to get my car fixed to a point where it's a very reliable daily driver, but every time I take care of one thing another just comes up and bites me.

Hey man, I'm interested in the type of noise it's making? You said it sounds like there's a hole in your exhaust, and then you said it makes a rattling noise. Cause my car's been making a weird noise right by the CAT, as if some exhaust is getting out through there or something, and I was wondering if it was the same thing.

If it sounds like the exhaust is noticably louder and you can smell a strong gas smell , you could have an exhaust leak. If your friend hit a dip relatively hard , it may have bent or cracked your piping. You should jack up the car andcheck for that.

I had this problem a few months ago. My car was running richa and the gas smell was really strong (rich). I would drive the car and would here rattling noise near my cat. It turned out to be my cat was clogged and I hd to replace my cat. I replaced my cat and the car doesn't smell or rattle anymore. Hope this helps.
