sometimes i get this pretty bad lag in first gear,, i know how to drve stick so its not that.. it just lags and seems like it has no power at all. is it possible it could be the timing belt? because that needs a change

haha sounds like it huh, just like justins sig, we spend all this time and $$ on bolt-ons for about 30 exxtra HP...grab a turbo kit and im sure you will be satisfied with the response down low under 4k rpm

I know what you are talking about, it happens to me every now and then. Usually it's when I don't start off smoothly and let the revs drop too much (like clutch fully engaged with tach at about 1500). More common in the summer time when I'm running the A/C as that is robbing a big chunk of power as well

Like Justin said, it's not really a lag, but rather the severe lack of torque available at that RPM. Give it some more gas and/or let out the clutch later.

i know wat ur talking about but its not that... that happens too thats nuthing.. this definately IS a problem.. for example im in first and i give it gas as usual and than theres like no power.. and a couple of seconds after (same pressure on gas peddal) it kicks in and speeds up fast... like i said i know how to drive stick and this just started happening like 2 weeks ago. only happens once eveytime i drive it always withing the first 5 times i enter first gear.. than goes away.. like i said its not right and definately is a problem

If you expect your car to be ultra responsive below 4k, you are dreaming since it is a 1.8 liter four cylinder. Your powerband is up high. Sounds to me like you're bogging the engine.

My car feels plenty responsive at 3 or 4 grand. Sure it's no V6, but it's not painfully slow or anything.

I hope not, that would be crap...... and it also happens in other gears its like it starts sputtering, then catch on and pull, only at low rpms and it pulls different almost everytime i hit the gas

I also experience this 'problem,' if indeed it is a problem. Same circumstance exactly. It just started noticing it a month or so ago so it's defiantly not normal, though I am do for a tranny rebuild soon, not sure if that has anything to do with it.

And JustinKlemgold, why must you always be so vindictive in your responses? We're all one big happy (usually) family here. Try to lighten up once in a while.

Your problem could simply be from getting bad gas. Also, if your clutch were slipping you may experience the same kind of "lag" until it "kicks in and speeds up fast". But if you know anything about manuals you should know if that's your problem.

Come to find out its not just 1st gear, its every gear it seems to be hesitating unless i fluctate the pedal.... if anyones here drags than they know fluctuating is not the way to go when ur in 3rd going down the strip!
