I'd use brake cleaner though as it fully evaporates and leaves no residue

 

You will get an odor when you first brake when you use general degreaser as it burns it off, but no you shouldn't have a problem using it. As Kasey said, brake cleaner would be the best bet though.

Just to note. Brake cleaner is a wonder cleaning substance for anything but plastic, rubber, or painted surfaces.

I find that it cleans better than that "degreaser" stuff if you are cleaning an engine block. It cleans up headers and exhausts well too.

 

I would not use engine degreaser on your brakes, it leaves a oily residue and you don't won't anything like that on your brakes. If you do use the degreaser you may end up contaminating your brake pads and lower the effectiveness of your brakes. Just get yourself some brake cleaner, it isn't that expensive, especially if you get it at a place like walmart.

 

Brake cleaner all the way!!! Well, they named it Brake Cleaner for a reason...

 

Try to find Chlorine free brake clean - it's a little less dangerous and about the same price.
