AWD Integra with CRV components?

So I have a 94 integra ls I am currently building. I also just picked up a 2001 Honda CRV. Driving my crv daily is making me wanna turn my tegy into a realtime awd dc2. I hear people say it's too expensive and to difficult to do.

I know two problems are the exhuast and gas tank are in the way. Woopdy f******* doo! How's bout a fuel cell in the trunk and a custom exhaust?

Next, I got friends who can weld really good. Is it really gonna be that difficult? Is it worth it? How much power can a CRV rear diff take? Will it break from launching? lol

Anyone have a list of parts I would need? I know I need a crv tranny, rear axles, drive shaft, diff, mounts . . . . . What is going to be my biggest concern?

I plan on throwing in a itr final drive and using a itr engine and possibly supercharge/turbo depending on how much a crv diff can take.

WOO HOO! That **** is hot! I will update everyone when I start my project. I am going to do a lot of research and then start collecting parts needed. If anyone can let me in on some tips or have a parts list I would appreciate it.

it would be difficult, but not impossible. The fuel cell and custom exhaust would be the only way to go that I can see. Also after reading those articles its apparent that there's even more drivetrain power loss due to the transfer case and transmission. Looks like you're gonna want to beef up your engine if you want to still have some power.

those two articles are the only ones that i've seen on this subject, so I think this project your gonna be almost on your own. Maybe try and get in contact with the people that built the other AWD teg?

one thing is that since the newer CRV's are K powered, if you are going to go for an AWD build such as this, would you be any better off using the k powerplant and drivetrain as well?

damn dude you just took the words right outa my mouth!
just thinking about this thing is insane! lots of fab work but if you can drop a corvette motor into a civic then this could be done forsure.be the first and use the k series!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's not worth it IMO. People somehow get the idea that Honda's AWD system is like an STI or an EVO...It's not even close. For one thing it only activates itself when it detects wheelspin. Obviously this will only benefit you in straight line acceleration (until wheelspin is over) from a dig. Dont bother with it on a road course or auto-X because it wont be active during cornering thus you still have a FWD teg.

Now having next to no idea how the honda AWD system works, would it be possible to rework it in a way so that the 'bias' was able to be controlled in cab in a way similar to a brake prop valve as the system is controlled hydraulically?

Braille did something to that CRV driveline to make that teg driftable. Maybe to find out more information you might want to give them a call and see if you can find out anything more about that car. I remember reading in the Ebay ad that you were able to switch it from FWD to RWD to AWD in a matter of like 45 mins.
Yea, by swapping in and out axles.

So I already thought about using the K series setup but that ****'s way too expensive and I have a hard on for B-series.
I understand how the CRV realtime 4wd works. As far as power goes I will be going with a b18c5 turbo or supercharger.

Now when you have around 450 WHP and FWD you tend to not get any traction and launching isn't the easiest, hence the realtime 4wd system I wanna use. I figure on a launch, 2nd, and 3rd gear the rear wheels will kick in and help out a lot with FWD traction issues.

Anyone have any idea how much hp/torque is too much for a CRV diff? Should I just leave my integra fwd and maybe soup up my CRV a little (lol!) ?

Drag slicks are designed for a drag strip. I am making a bad ass street car. Maybe you're right about the cost being worth it though. I havn't priced the whole thing out but I am assuming it would be under $3000 to convert.

Ha. the eBay ad said there were over 800 hours into the conversion. no way you get that much done for under 3k

ok so honda had the ef civic wagon in an awd version maybe you should just try finding one of them and dropping a crv-awd tranny in with your choice of b-series engine. thats just a suggestion. i know its not an integra but ive wanted to see it done or even just drop a vtec into a crv or even make a b20 vtec awd crv. imagine an awd crv showing up at the strip with four 8-10" wide slicks.

3.7 awd swap perhaps?

the 3.7 has the same tranny and shawd as the rdx its just different length drive shafts as a matter of fact the k23t makes so much TQ that honda uses a v6 a shawd (super handling all wheel drive) to take the output.
