just thought of a second question...would this be a good time to install new cam gears? also, is there such a thing as a "performance" timing belt?

 

i didnt get mine done at a dealer, but the price was still the same. i brought it to a Honda/Acura specialist. $600 there too. its just about $200 in parts and all the rest is labor....its a big job!

 

cam gears, definately.....but i'd stick with the Honda timing belt pn: 14400-PR4-A01

Replacing the timing belt is not that hard. But then again, my friend and I work oon our cars all of the time. The price they are charging you to replace it is mostly labor.

 

you should expect to pay around $300-$400. i wouldnt pay any more than $400.

i was paid $413.00... t-belt, water pump, all new belts...

 

I got it done for $160.00 but just the belt, my mechanic is the best.

 

oh ok. i dont have the oney to pay for labor, so i do everything myself. havent needed to change a timing belt though.

 

600+ from my dealer...That's in the days before I worked on my own car.

 

$600 is just straight rediculous. Around $400 in labor give me a break. I payed $300 at a local shop. These dealerships crack me up. They quoted me $400 for a friggin radiator and I ended up saving $200 on that.

 

I payed around $600 at the dealer as well. Yea its a rip but DOHC timing belts are not fun.

 

my local acura quoted me at 680 for the timing belt and water pump, but a local import shop said less than 300 for all belts, pump, and labor. i will be going there in the very near future...

 

i haven't seen that anyone has posted anything on here about the tensioner being replaced too... be sure to ask about that too... it was recommended by a guy at the acura dealership... he said while you're already in there with everything off, you might as well get it done...

hey justin, how many miles are on your teg? i don't mean to switch your topic, but do you need it yet? i drive my teg really hard and didn't change it until 115k... but then again, i could have just gotten lucky...

 

when you pull the timing belt at 90k, you like at it, and you're like...DAMN! this thing looks new! Its good to chnage it sooner though....for obvious reasons.

Get a helms manual, get a freind, and do it youreself. It's not hard because it's complicated like other things, it's hard because its a ***** to just do the job itself, but you can do it with a friend in a day. Trust me, it's not particulary tricky, just labor and time consuming.

Be safe and do it first! God Forbid that belt breaks or skips a tooth, u would be stuck with an engine job on top of everything else to do.Be safe man, do it now.its required on LS SE GS RS tegs every 80K, on GSR's every 60K.
