If we combine ITR inner valve springs on a GSR set-up, will it perform the same as the ITR combo??

Whats the difference between ITR ourter valve springs and GSR outer valve springs??? arent they the same?? how about the difference between the two retainers set??

thanks

The GS-R's dual valve springs on the intake side are ITR exhaust valve springs. No difference, both inner and outer.

on the exhaust side, the GS-R has single springs and you cannot put inner springs inside of them, they just aren't setup to do that. Like we usually say, you can get ITR intake dual valve springs and move the GS-R intake springs over the exhaust side. Then you have a Type R valve spring setup which will be good for a mild cam upgrade like Type R, Toda A, Skunk2 Stg1, etc.

Sorry to bring back an old thread, just came up first in the search.

"Like we usually say, you can get ITR intake dual valve springs and move the GS-R intake springs over the exhaust side"

I've heard this many times, and the part interchange shows it here, but I have a JDM B16 in my G2, and the only B16 numbers on that part interchange are for the USDM B16. I know the cam specs on my B16 are different than the first gen JDM or USDM ones. SO, does anyone know if a) the springs are different and what they are, and b) if I can switch the B16 intake springs to the exhaust side anyway, even if the part numbers don't match up?

I read this, but it seems to speculate that since the B17a has dual valve springs, it must be the same as the B18c1. Judging by the part-interchange and the fact that the B17a uses a B16/B18c5 style head, I would guess they are more likely to be different than the same. I still don't know if that means I can't use them though, or what my springs are on my B16.

I never re-use old springs whenever I can.

it's wiser to replace with new springs.

but if the budget can't afford it, then you go with what you have and cross your fingers and hope you're not going to regret later on that you're being "penny wise and pound foolish".

basically what that chart tells you is that the USDM b16a3 cams are identical to your gen 2 b16a...did you not see that? Secondly the chart shows you that you don't need dual springs on the exhaust side...it's not a b18c5 exhaust cam that would need dual exhaust springs!

We actually posted at the same time, so I didn't see your link, but I was looking at this one, which also has lots of useful info too. Although I knew the cams were close, they are not identical. I know .1 mm isn’t much, and the intake duration is slightly different, but it was enough of a difference that I wasn't 100% sure that they were the same springs as the 2000 SI. Lastly, I would only change the valve springs if I had a cam that warranted it, I’m not a glutton for punishment!
