WTF, cali is on some serious bullshit

there is also another vin plate between the ac & header. its like right around there.

 

Could anyone please provide a picture. It will help for evidence. I just want my car back !

 

those pics show the vin for the tranny. Im not sure where the Vin is for the actual motor.

 

The engine vin is located on the front bottom of the block under the header.

That is only the trans vin. If the trans was ever replaced it would not have the vin.

 

I never replaced the tranny. Not sure if the one previous owner replaced it it only had 51k.
Would the engine vin be visible with the heat shield ?

Are they allowed to tow my car based on this ?

I dont know cali laws on that.

Look at the front side bottom of the block, right above the oil pan. There should be a green VIN there for the engine.

 

 

Thank you, that image helps ! But I'm not sure about that tranny sticker /plate though. From image research, looks like 94-96 ls are missing that plate/stick at the tranny location.

Can anyone confirm this ? Might help my case. Thanks

 

ive had a few friends with ls trannys 96 n prior and they didnt have that vin, i wonder if its all coincidence or if it actually doesnt come with one

 

I have a 94 GSR and it DOES NOT have the vin plate on the tranny, but I know my 99 LS did

 

make sure that you contest the allegations in court and make sure that you get your car inspected and that the inspector notes on the paper work that the tranny vin plaque is missing and then carry that paper work with your registration and insurance paper work.

I was going to comment that I didn't think the old cars were marked on the tranny...

My 95 gsr tranny had no tag.


I cant look at my 96 at the moment.

94-95 tegs do not have tranny vins, my 94 gsr doesnt have one either. i didnt see one on the front bottom of my block either when i changed my oil pan gasket a while back......

94-95 only have three. door jamb, firewall and dash

Haha yea i caught myself and fixed it. 94-95 have stickers on the tranny instead of a vin plate.

The sticker might have come off already... mine is halfway peeled back and just hanging there

 

Oh okay. That is interesting. Because I told the cop that if it was there then it must have fallen off. He said that they don't just "fall off".

Maybe they do......?

yeah they do fall off....I have had mine with it half way hanging...no worries...from my understanding there are 2 differrent places the tranny and block have their serial numbers....i may be mistaken on the block but not the tranny....

This happened to a guy i knew...he knowingly bought and put a stolen Transmission on his car--Dumbass, he got pulled over going home, got checked, no serial number on the Transmission, after they kept the car for a while i guess investigation. they notified him he had stolen parts in his car and it was gonna be crushed. About 2 weeks later i saw it on TV on various times and channels...sometimes they still play it it's the White EG hatch.


Anywaist...im sure you will be fine especially if you are the 2nd owner and the original owner's got it from the dealership...Just call PD and check on the status....

The only transmissions they cannot track are the JDM ones.

you should take this officer to small claims court for not knowing where to check for your vin on the engine and make him pay for all the time you've had to rent a car. he's basically impounded your car for not having a vin sticker on your engine, when it most likely does, and the trans doesn't.

my 96 does have the vin sticker on the trans but he should have checked the engine if he impounded the effin car.

 

I agree with tlangy....i cant stand people who are incompetent in their job especially when it affects the public......Take this cop to court...atleast contact the court and ask to see what you can do..

What i would do for sure is contact the Police Department that he works for and speak to his Supervisor or submitt some kind of negative comment against him.
This might not be his first time doing something like this. If it is his first time doing it then he will be more knowledgeable next time. Or he might already have a record of this and we can get him fired.

Im not for getting people fired but Police officers do hate us who drive imports...so when they try to get me for not doing anything like they did to you i would go back for them...

Metal plate.


Like I said, the transmission may have been replaced. You need to look at the ENGINE and see if the plate is there. You can get your car back if that plate is there (and should be there).
