Gear Ratios, Torque and Thrust

My GSR tranny is out, and while inspecting, I decided to replace my 1-2 syncro and hub. This got me thinking about swaping gears.
with a gsr transmission, a type R 2nd gear would keep the rpm's up another 500 after the 1-2 shift, but would cause the 2-3 shift to drop by 500. Since traction is already an issue in 2nd for me, but the 1-2 shift is a weak point, I decided to look into a taller first gear.
OEM one is 3.23
others I've come across are:
3.077 (gear X)
this would reduce the rpm drop by 300, droping to 5000rpm at stock redline, vs 4700. $245 is expensive though

3.181 (86-89 gen 1 integras) looks like only a 75rpm difference
3.307 (92-93 GSR 1st)

Anyone know if something needs to be swapped on the main shaft for a different 1st or 2nd gear ratio?
