Ualramper does have merit to his point, people swap cams quite a bit without much thought with few issues. While not the way I would do things either, I'm sure a single cap could be made to work without the need of a line hone.

I say just find a used cap and check the clearances against the cam as well as checking out of round. There is an interesting article I just dug up which may shed some light on trying to do this as properly as possible while avoiding the machine shop.
