Is there any why that you can test the valve seals with out taking off the head, IE. leakdown test. I am haveing cams installed and since my car has 135,000 miles on it my mechanic wants to take off the head and check the valve seals and charge me like twice as much.

So a leakdown test will test the valve seals? I am almost sure that is what it is for but am not positive. Thanks MD.

A leakdown test will tell you if the valves & seats are leaking. If your tailpipe lets out a puff of blue smoke when you start it up in the morning, then there's a good chance your valve seals are leaking.
