if it's the engine/tranny/ecu and they are not ragged out...I would b16 is a better engine..more after market parts...I would first show him 1000$ in cash..and see what he does...maybe you could steal it for a grand or 1200..good luck

ls/vtec sounds like the way to go, if your current engine is in good condition and his is also...
Why does everyone say Ls/vtec??? its NOT the way to you... you need to build up the block,to get some DECENT power and reving capabilities... its good when done right.. but why not just go with a stock gsr or h22 sam to more HP less time more reliable... read this article..

third peddle in??!! oh man you are in for a suprise. it should be anywhere from 1000-1500. here are all the parts you need, this was taken from the common topics section. si tranny,or ls tranny, or gsr tranny. Transmission Linkages
Transmission Mounts
Clutch
Flywheel
Pressure Plate
5 Speed Pedals
Manual ECU
Manual Gauge Cluster (optional)
Shifter and Shift Boot
Clutch/Slave Cylinders
Clutch Resovoir
Matching Throttle Cable for the Pedal Set
hydraulic lines
The ls/vtec is also a very costly upgrade and many people have had probelm with reliability. and in regards to just swapping the b16a into the ls, its really a waste of money. your only gaining about 10-15 hp and this motor is also gaining a ton of weight being moved from the civic to teg meaning you will not see that same results for it. the b16 also does not make any power until around 6k. i mean it is bad until then. talk to phi67 about that and im sure about any other questions because he has done the swap and im sure he would know more than anyone about this subject. if i were you i would keep the b18b1 and spend that money you were going to put into the swap into a turbo if you want more power. or just get I/H/C/E and you will have more power thorughout the power range and make up what the b16a had on you and cost alot less.
