what do you mean the 'cap'? The top half of the black box which houses the stock filter? You will be fine without that

no. It will destroy your engine. particles can slip into the transduction chamber on the side of the filter posterior seals. Bypass and eventual penitrations of fine particles an eventually wear out your CGF system and intake flow cap.
In short... well lets just say i wouldnt do it.
