so im dropping my tranny...which i have never done bfore...any hints on getting the axle out? im at the point where i think all i need to do is hit the bolt with a hammer and it will kinda slide out, but i dont want to mess up my axle...

all help is appreciated.

Pull the nut to the end of the threads tap on the nut to get the axle disconnected from the hub assembly. Then take a big screw driver and pry in between the axle and the tranmission. (Be gentle. there are seals in this area)

For the driver's side axle, beat on the joint closest to the wheel with a little sledge hammer. For the passenger side, have someone pry from above while you pry from below. It should slide out pretty easy. Intermittently stop prying and just grab ahold of it and twist and shack it while you try to pull out.

It shouldn't take much to get them out if they're completely out of the wheel hubs already.

on the driver side axle, it's a whole lot easier to unbolt the mounting bracket from the block than to attempt to slide the axle through it.

The drivers side can be a *****, We always just remove the intermediate shaft along with it never separating it from the drivers cv.

Passenger side is cake, pops out easy.

I meant beat on the joint furthest from the wheel. It's right next to the mounting bracket for the intermediate shaft. DO NOT beat on the joint closest to the wheel. Then you'll wind up needing a new axle.
