hi i just bought a escort 8500. i was wondering if there is a way to mute ya stereo(pioneeer Pioneer DEH-P850MP ) when the radar goes off?

pionner makes a cellur phone mute. if anyone has any idea on how that works it would be helpful.(like what pin does what, cause some modification to that could help. the way see it is that when ya phone rings the cdm-1 detects it and sends a signal to the headunit to mute.if i could figure out what pins send the signal ui could always rewire it to the radar so that when the radar goes off it will mute the stereo

i dont know about muting the head unit, but if you put the 8500 in loud mode, it gets really really loud. ive never had to worry about not hearing my detector, no matter how loud my stereo was. but you might listen to your stereo really loud (which would be interesting) and in that case, ou might need to mute it.

If I remember correctly (it's been awhile since I've worked with Pioneers) the cell phone mute was 1 wire off the main harness triggered by either a + or - input (I think it was -). If any of the wires on your detector have a trigger when it goes off you could wire it through a relay and make it activate the cell phone mute feature. I don't know any specifics on either unit, so that's about all the help I can give you.
