Outer CV joint axle question

773 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  4drteggie
So I need to reboot my axle, and according to my helms it says i need to remove the inner joint, and the pulsation dampner, then pull the boot that way, but can the outer joint be removed to just reboot it(ive done this before, but is it the correct way?)

Ive gotta do my pass side inner joint, and my driver side outer.

I've got this same question now, as mine just tore yesterday. Actually, is it even possible to take apart the outboard joint?
you can take the outter joint off, with no issues. I actually did not even remove my boots, so I cleaned the joint, still on the car.

I did boots on a friends car, put the axle in a vise, BETWEEN 2 PIECES OF WOOD, so you do not damage the shaft, then at the outter joint, put another small piece of wood there, and give it a solid whack with a good sized hammer, it usually comes right off. If it does not, rotate the axle in the vise, then try at a different part of the joint.
I know i'm bringing this back, but 95SilverBullet where are you putting these two pieces of wood? The half-shaft in the middle? I'm also trying to remove the outer stub joint from the axle end for a CV boot repair.
Are you also putting this small piece of wood in between as a lever?
