While on ebay i found a OBD 1 code reader for cheap. I think. But it will make knowing the check engine code a lot easie.

Does this give you the actual code like the OBD2 ones do?

I think this one just gives some kind of flash or something and you have to figure out the code yourself. Same thing as using the paper clip and counting the # of flashes from the check engine light on the cluster.

AFAIK, OBD1 does not have the huge code list that OBD2 has simply because it isn't monitoring as many things.

OBD1 means just blinking lights. I agree, glorified paper clip. You can get the same results from a free peice of paper clip. OBD2 is different story.

If you get a CEL while datalogging in <CROME> you can double click on it, and it will tell you exactly what it is.......

I have one of those universal code scanner that I use on OBD2, much easier, and can erase at the push of a button.
