what kind of spark plugs are you using? intake clearance from acura said its .09 mm but i read somewhere that it should be .2 mm intake and exhaust i adjusted mine to .1 mm and im havin similar problems ever since, now i dont know whether its my bosch +4 platinum spark plugs cuz someone told me not to use those on japanese cars, so that could be it. theres also another mod that i did which is run the coolant hose rather through the throttle body but straight to the engine instead, supposedly you get a few extra horsepowers, so therefore some times my idle goes up and down but i dont think thats the reason why it idles low, im really starting to believe its the intake clearance, and that it should be somewhere more than .1 mm but hey, i dunno!!!!

I had the same problem on my 95 GSR the only thing i did was change 3 things "Timing Belt, Spark Plugs & Wires" and the problem went away.

i'm getting this problem, the idle is around 500 rpms just like everyone else, i've changed the spark plugs, i'm going to be chaning the wires to see if that does anything and then i'll move onto the timing belt since my car has 190K miles on it, its a 98 GS-R.

Ok, so i did some searching and some reading and thought I would throw this one out there and see what you guys think. My 94 LS also has the same problem with the idle when in neutral and its only when the car is warm...but heres the kicker, when the car is warm between 1000 rpm and 3000 rpm the car sputters real bad but if I punch it, it drives fine. So with that being said because I am new to imports I pulled the plugs wired one by one and got them close to the valve cover to check for spark the plug wire closest to the cam gears seem to have alot less spark then the other three wires.

I pulled the spark plugs and cleaned them and checked the gap and they were fine. Also I tool the car to a really dark parking lot and turned off all the lights with the car running and sprayed the spark plug wired with plain water to see if they were arching and I got nothing......

Any help on this one????

well here is my input, i got a 97 GS, at this moment, me and another friend believe my IACV isnt even working at ALL, ive replaced it with another used one, doesnt seem to work :\. What happens to me is this, sometimes when im driving and i come to a light and im holding the brake, the car kind of pulls forward like it jerks/bogs, its refered as "idle spikes". I was told by a few people. They told me it could be iacv, timing could be off, my ecu may be bad( i had a harness issue not long ago :D ). i get paid today , so ill be spending a good amount on entire tune up. I'll let u guys know my outcome.

But u guys may be having idle spikes. Im also having issues where my car wants to turn off, but i havent been working on every issues yet because i just got the main cabient harness in... so ill drop feedback when i got it.

kingkash. what you posted i think is exactly the information i needed. i have an 98 obd1 turboed gsr and it's doing the crazy idle situation just like the guy on your post said so i'm gonna try what he says and see what happens.

Have you checked that the IACV is working properly? There is a test procedure in a thread on this site. Here is the link. As for timing, you can easily check that using this article as a guide.

when i first start my car in the morning, it revs from 2.5-3.5. yesterday morning i was cleaning my ABS sensor. so my car was on a jack and the left wheel was off. i started my car with the car jacked up and when it was reving 2.5-3.5 the left wheel was spinning. is that normal? after it warms up, the reving stops but my car feels like it's about to die. very shaky. any ideas? help please :( <33 replies = thank you.

If your car is jacked up in the front, your wheels will spin out of gear at idle. This is completely normal. As for your car about to die, what you are experiencing is the shift between the throttle plate closing and the IACV taking over once the engine gets back down to idle speeds. you will notice a "low spike" when you rev and let off before the IACV opens. This is greatly exaggerated when your oil temps are relatively high as well.

Hey all, i have a similar problem but with diff symptoms:

- during throttle, not "all" of the power is there as acceleration is slow (i had to take the car home)
- feels/sounds like a go cart (i need to replace b-pipe, but the sound sounds more awful now)
- car is shaky, feels like it will die @ stoplight (but never does)
- idle is the same way (during park)

From reading, i can change plugs, wires, alt, and/or clean IACV.

Also, why would changing my fuel filter help anything? even if the filter is "clogged" up lets say, it can effect performance? i've changed my filter but i feel i could change it again.

I've cleaned the IACV not too long ago, so i don't think that's an issue (I had a low idle problem but it was fixed)

any thoughts?

thank you.

you can also check vacuum. some times a leak will cause odd issues.

you can also check ignition timing.

if you're having acceleration problems it could be ignition related or possible fuel related, like a clogged fuel system, bad O2 sensor, etc.

fuel filters are technically supposed to be replaced every 30k too.

Hi, i'm also haveing the same issue with the idle, first of my car is a 94 ls and when idle when warm it idles fine but sometimes the rpm drops low then shoots back up to normal again, is this normal? i'm just afraid the car is gonna stall out when i'm at a red light or something, i've looked into everything from the iacv to the fitv to adjusting the idle, any help would be appreciated thanks....

hi, im having a same problem to my 99 integra ls and i think i found a solution about low idle and high idle..it need to change my catalytic converter bcuz i recently bought a aftermarket headers and exhaust and my converter is stock so i might probably need a magnaflow catalytic converter since i have a all aftermarket header, exhaust, and muffler..and i also tried adjusting the IAC and resetting the ECU and even disconnected the battery and my car still sounds its dying whenever it hasn't warmed up but when its the engine warmed up my car sounds normal and everything.

When I put my car into first gear and I go to take off it stutters like it’s going to die then goes back to being normal but starts to take forever to build up speed. Anyone know what might be wrong?

my engine idles low and it feels like it's about to die..(between 2nd-3rd line on the rpms). it usually happens whenever i push my car hard...not hard like i'm killing it, but i gotta get to where i'm going quick, kinda hard. anyways, lets say i'm at a stop light, my exhaust sounds like it doing some kinda of bass drum beat. the whole thing feels like it's gonna die. and if i push some gas, rpms would go up and when i let go...the needle DROPS (falls like a brick) and catches itself at the first line, just almost about to die, but doesn't. then it goes back to that drumbeat. i dunno what's up with it. distributor, wires, spark plugs were changed, compression tests taken by three different mechanics all saying it's normal. anyone have any ideas what's up here?
reviving old post in case anyones looking for answers, i had the same issue, fixed it by swapping around the tps and map wires, they have the same connections and they both go on the throttle body, easy to mess up, fixed my low hunting idle and engine hesitation/dying when giving it gas.

Quick update::

Just checked all the spark plugs/wires and distributor. Still same problem. sigh Can't seem to figure out what it is right now. Frustration doesn't even begin to describe it. Since it worked fine an hour before I took the wires out and the cover off...

Any suggestions would be helpful. I still feel it's just the wires. But, my Haynes manual that shows the plug order... well, it sounds worse if I change it to that particular order. I know it sounds odd, but, it's true.
The burning rubber smell sounds like burning valves to me.
