GSR how much horse power?

How much horse power does a gsr engine come with stock? I'm talking about the gsr engine that we get here in america not the jdm gsr. A friend of mine says the the gsr that we get only comes with 160 hp when i always thought that it came with 180 hp. And are the enignes which come from japan reliable? I heard they wont last very long becasue they are set up for a very high level of octane?

The USDM GS-R comes with 170hp stock. JDM SiR-G (Japanese equivalent of our GS-R) comes with 180hp.
For the Prelude Type S in Japan, you need 100 octane....Im sure the JDM ITR is near that.
How bout the JDM GSR? Anyone have a clue?
Gen2 GS-R: 160 HP
Gen3 GS-R: 170 HP
Gen2 JDM GS-R: 160 PS
Gen3 JDM GS-R: 180 PS
PS is not HP.

The JDM cars don't always make more power...
Anyone know if the JDM GSR requires 97 octane also?
i think the jdm gsr does need 97 also...in japan everything has more hp then the american version...supra rx7 tegs ludes ect...

That is incorrect...

If you look at the power figures I posted a few posts ago you would know that. The Gen2 GS-R JDM actually has less HP than the Gen2 GS-R USDM. Please let's not spread newbie misconceptions around here, I think this site is better than that.

Alot of newbies think the JDM cars have so much more power because they look at the PS number and just assume it's some funky Japanese word for HP. It is in fact a different measurement. It's close, but still different nonetheless.
sorry if this question will anger people or if it just makes me look really stupid, but what does PS stand for? What type of measurement is it? And is there a conversion method to turn PS to HP, you know like turning centimeters into inches?

Stupid? Not at all, that's the smartest question on this topic. Some people are content with having the wrong answers while others are not.

1 PS = 0.9863 HP

It's close, but it's still different. Now tell me who has more HP the JDM Gen2 GS-R or the USDM Gen2 GS-R?
USDM. Now give me my cookie.

Oops, my bad. I said the SiR-G had 180HP, I forgot about the JDM engines being measured in PS.

180PS = 177.534HP (178 rounding up) so I was close.

hey thanks for all the help guys, i guess going gsr is worth the money. It gives me a better powerplant to build off of. I got a friend that says he can hook me up with the gsr engine, tranny, and computer for 1000-1500 which i beleive is an awsome deal but he has been laggin and now i'm not sure when i'll be able to get it. Anyone know of any reputable places where i can get that package at a reasonable price. As far as i know I've only been able to find JDM engines for sale and i dont really want one of those. Thanks again.
Dont want one? Why wouldn't ya? they got more power the the us version....
Another thing that we should take into consideration: Sure, many Euro. Spec. and JDM cars CAN have more power but usually never do, usually due to expensive gas prices overseas. In Europe, for example, most of the Mercedes (including E and S-classes) come with dinky diesels and very small (usually under 3.0 liters) 6 cyls. MOreover, most 3-series in Europe are 1.6 liter 4cyls or 2.0 liter 6cyls. It's really disapointing...
Correct my friend. Most everyone pays more for gas than we do. Europe pays between 3 and 4 dollars a gallon so you can imagine why the demand for big engines is extremely low. Kinda funny, because we complain when gas hits $1.70...
