EDIT: I made an album: Click here to see it (pictures in random order).
Check out highlights on page 2 of this thread!
Allright, sproket13 (scott) and I both bought Neuspeed Sport Springs and needed them installed (along with scott's tokiko illuminas). We'd been planning it for ALMOST forever. Shopped around and our best deal was keeping it in the family, by contacting gsrboy94 (chris) and girlracer (danielle) in debary, FL.
The day started out with scott and I meeting up in orlando and travelling to debary, in search of the elusive spring compressor. It only took 4 shops before we finally found a place we could rent it from
! We rolled in a little late (an hour or so), and unfortunately missed breakfast
.
Armed with digital camera and videocam in hand, we started around 10AM. We got the struts/springs off of scott's car with much agony, but eventually we were successful. We had to send Scott and Danielle out for some supplies to aid us in our troubles. Along the line we realized a few things, such as that its a good idea to loosen the bolt on top of the strut before taking it off the car (may have saved us up to an hour if we did that at first). We also found while trying to save time from the impending storm that there's no need to use the spring compressor on the rear stock springs, they're not under enough pressure to be dangerous. Not to mention the fact that it will take probably less than half the time with air tools.
Scott's 98 GSR was first and ended up beautiful. We went for a test drive and it was just plain amazing. The Tokiko Illuminas and Neuspeed Sports complemented each other very well. The initial drive had the illuminas set to 3 I believe, but later set to 2. Not only did it now corner beautifully, but we sure did tear the hell out of his stock front mudflaps
! But it was all in good fun (anyone want to buy some slightly-used, slightly-torn-all-to-hell front mudlflaps?). In scott's words: "Damn that's sexy" or my reply: "Yeah, I'd do her."
And then there was intermission. Scott and danielle had some boar's head subs made up (mmmmmmmmm) and all kinds of goodies. We filled ourselves up just in the nick of time, chris was juuuuust about ready to die, I think. We also took a breather and watched the first half of the video. Comical yet suspensful (ie "shooting" off the rear spring). once we were refreshed, we were ready for the complete transformation that my teg would undergo (little did we know the drastic changes that were to be afoot).
My 94RS came there simply in hopes of having Neuspeed Sports installed with newer stock struts from scott's car. It left with oh so much more. We saved a lot of time by loosening the top strut bolt on each while they were still on the car. All spring/strut installation on my car went smoothly (rock on RS WOOHOO!). In the middle though, we decided to take a walk through the garage and found a few things of interest...
"hey, check out this exhaust... we don't need it... art, you want it?"
"of course!"
"we can use these stock tails to fix your leaky trunk problem"
"hell yeah"
"how about my old stock painted mirrors to get rid of your ugly black ones"
"that'll do"
Too bad the nice red of the stock mirrors didn't match my now-oxidized "milano-pink" paint job. Danielle decided to try out the Meguiar's three step process on a little part of my car, but she didn't know what she was getting herself into! If you saw the car before, you just plain wouldn't believe it was the same car! We were amazed to see the car match the mirrors, it was amazing! Man, I got the hook-up, there's no doubt about that!!
My car drove like a dream, but that could be partially due to the dream-like state I was in because I was half dead from compressing springs by hand! Chris also got a test drive in scott's supersonic blue GSR around that time. From what I saw, he approved, he just didnt think the Kumho 711's were up to par. Scott also got a ride in the infamous first teg of the month!
We arrived back in Orlando around 8:30PM!! I don't think scott's sister was too pleased... oops! But hey, the tegs were done, and that's what really matters, right? I had a whole hour to relax after shower etc before the overnight shift at work, and here I am now that my shift is over. I'm actually heading back shortly to see a cam gear install and a caliper painting with swiftllamagone.
Our video was pretty informative (not to mention all of the qualities I mentioned before and then some ) so eventually I plan on getting it edited, compressed and up on an FTP site when I move and get my cable set up. We didn't get too many still pics, but I'll be posting them here, and I'm sure scott will be posting all of his too.
I'm still almost buzzed from yesterday. I probably left a bit out, but I'm sure the others will fill in all the cracks! Wish you all could have been there!
