i just put on new 2.5 inch. exhaust all the way back. and there is a rattle at the bumper "hole" where the tip sticks out. how can i fix this? by the way. all the bolts and hangers are secure and there is nothing loose.

It's probably the hangers, try adjusting those, switch em to a higher or lower ones. If it sounds like metal, then it's probably your heat shields but those are closer to the middle of the car than the rear.

Is the tip welded or bolted on?

it could be the cat. sometimes the rocks inside get loose and rattle.

^^Good point. That's definitely a possibility. Ceramic breaks loose, travels through the B-pipe, and gets stuck in the muffler.

id take off the cats heat shield because if its a "metal on metal" sound thats probably it. if not, use the lower hangers for your exhaust

All i remember is that this happens quite often with our cars. Check the hangers, the ones that came with my exhaust ended up makin the sound

i had this problem once, the weld on the exhaust broke away from the hanger and when i hit just a minor bump the exhaust hit my rear control arm

its got brand new hangers and all the welds are ok, the tip is welded on as well.

this usually happens on crush bent custom exhausts. since most of them are made in one piece they are not a great fit and tend to rattle. my first exhaust was crush bent and it use to rattle too and shake the muffler.

if ur mufflers too close to ur bumper, some ppl trim the bumper . but yea if its not that close to ur bumper then it should be the cat

With the car running, put on some gloves and hold various points of the system. Hold onto the tip, the muffler, the over-axle piping, etc...this should help you pinpoint it's location.

Now you understand why the factory exhaust uses spring bolts.

im using spring bolts as well and now the CEL is on from an exhaust leak.
