I have a 91 integra rs. Turbo kit is on the way. What is the best option for ecu and fuel management. Need to have the ability to map it on a dyno. Budget is hopefully less than a grand.

This is the turbo kit fyi

I mean obviously Hondata is very popular when talking about piggy back ECUs but I keep finding alot using Neptune but not as familiar with its features.
I have Hondata and have to say Im not impressed much by their customer support and on S300 only one tune at a time can be used to run the car.
This means if you drive and have issues you either have to have computer with you to hook up to the ECU to change tunes or wait til you get back this seems totally unnecessary but Hondata can do a lot. Most upgrades like boost by gear or coil on plugs are going to cost extra.
Can someone else familiar provide more info on Neptune?

Dude i would not buy that kit if I were you. Stainless manifolds should be made out of 321 SS not 304 which does not hold up well. I had one off of something close to this that was ebay and had to weld it every couple months got so bad I switched to a cast iron log manifold because welds kept cracking.
Maybe it could work if manifold tubing was thicker and probably the way of welding it in sections will help too but i would not bet any money on it.
In general 304 stainless is known for one thing when using on turbo manifolds, cracks.
Not at all trying to dis illusion you from this but I had the same mindset starting out i can get this cheap thing off ebay and run it and you can but it wont be reliable long term. Over the years ive slowly replaced cheap parts with quality ones.
At the very least buy a kit with a cast iron long manifold if your going to go as well cheap as possible.

I appreciate the advice. But I already know I'm getting what I pay for. The turbo parts are the cheap part of the build. Hence not hard to go back and upgrade as time goes on. The short term goal is 4 or 5 good 15 lap 1/8th mile pass days this year. I'm considering a haltech elite 550. Thoughts?

I dont know much about Haltech is it stand alone or piggy back the one i read about sounded like you could retain your factory wiring which is good.
I thought Haltech was supposed to be pretty good def better than Hondata.

Yes its a standalone. With a plug and play adapter for obd1.
So does this mean the OBDI ECU does NOT have to be modified in order for everything to work?

For Hondata a 28 pin chip had to be fitted to the board in order to accept the Hondata S300 board. So you just plug something into your ECU with Haltech and it just works?

Neither. It is a standalone ecu that has a plug and play harness adapter for obd1 to plug and play with the stock wiring harness. I found a tuner that recommended it to me.

Nice to have a 3 bar MAP sensor built in. The more i learn about Hondata the no more think they are way behind companies like Haltech. Of course the technology is older but this guy said some the OBDI ECUs failed and theres no real pattern, i had one do exactly that. It was not Hondata that failed and the capcitators were fine it was some other component on the board that failed never could figure out exactly what.
What really was BS was that I called Hondata to ask is there anyway to determine if this computer is bad they said cut a jumper on the board and it return to stock tune which i did and car ran fine stock tune without turbo.
I send this computer in and they socket it and then ship it back the computer still having same random issue causing the car to die on the road in the driveway anywhere and everywhere in fact i tried changing the main relay since the issues were so similar.
Called up Hondata again and they said they do a "simulation test" before sending any ECU back after socketing well there simulation did not catch S$%t because computer still had the same issue when i got it back. What a complete joke.
I ended up having to find another OBDI ECU and have it sent off to be socketed to use with the S300 board.
Point being Hondata cannot and wont do any real diagnosis as to exactly whats failed on your board it could be a simple diode or something but they will just tell you to find a new ECU instead of investigating what the actual cause is only thing really changed out are the capcitators on these ODBI ECUs.
ON top of all this Hondata has no interest in helping customers learn to really use their software or tune and their literature is completely useless for the most part as a new tuner trying to learn. Everything is funneled to there dealers half of whom do not seem to even deal with Hondata much anymore.
SO point being Hondata is not a good company and there customer service is extremely poor. I cannot tell you what to get but Haltech definately sounds better so far.
