on the front of the engine block is a flat pad with the engine code B18B1) and a serial number. Is this serial number supposed to match the tub VIN?

yes the engine vin number should match that on the dashboard - (unless you've swapped interiors like i did...)

no, the serial numbers below the B18** number on the block do not correspond to the vin number on the chassis.

however, if you have a 96+ teg, there are green vin plates on the trans where it mates to the engine and on the engine next to the a/c compressor. these plates should be identical to the dash board vin plate.

there is also an identification placard inline the driver's side door =p
