Ok, I know I'm not the only geek here... Has anyone else thought about putting a computer system in their Teg? I'm thinking about mounting a laptop in the trunk (or maybe under a seat) and having it play mp3's, but hopefully do a lot more too. I'm also thinking about putting an old QuickCam in the front bumper so I can get some neat near-ground-level driving shots (even if they are only B&W). Anyone have any more ideas for things I can make it do? I'm also curious to hear from someone who has attempted something like this before.

yeah, hook it up to a standalone engine management system and do some tuning, unless you're stock... use it as a dvd player, and get one of those lcd in-dash screens... get a home dyno kit and use it to get your plots...

Yeah, I was going to do it a while back, but decided against it. I had figured out what parts I was going to use, but decided to save my money. I know that Jacksont001 was looking into it as well, but I don't recall hearing any info on his recently. Let us know if you go through with it.

Never really thought about putting a computer in my car but hey if you get it working that might be cool. Like everyone has said you could play DVD's, mp3's, that cam trick would be cool. If you spent the money you could get a tuning program like someone said. The only problem is that they are very expensive. Go for it and let us know how it went.

I'm a computer consultant, so I'm in the car a lot & it's basiclly my office. Anyways, I have an IBM laptop in my car that I use with an electrofuel battery. I use it for MP3's alot. I have a Pioneer headunit so instead of adding a cd changer via ip bus, I added an audio L/R input instead. This allows me to use a Y cable to connect my laptop into my head unit. I also watch movies on the laptop (not while I'm driving of course
).

Also, I do have wireless internet in the car. And no it's not just on my cell phone. I use my cell phone as a modem connected via a serial cable to my laptop. No special service is needed, it just uses up my peak/off peak minutes. I just dial into any ISP. It is slow though, but I can check email when I need to & get directions when I'm lost.

FYI, I do also "borrow" other's people 802.11b signal if I'm parked outside. This means free high speed WAN access.

Just be careful where you mount anything so the POLICE dont act a fool and give you a ticket for inattentive driving or something like that. And don't be INATTENTIVE to your driving.

Sounds pretty damn cool. I wonder how you could hook up the laptop to your car if you don't have the ability to get a l/r hookup on your head unit. There has to be some options.

Yeah, 802.11b will reach a long way. Guy I work with lives a block away from our main building and can still get a signal with an antenna he has. Sweet!!

Well since most people don't have a cassette deck nemore, that throws out using a cassette adapter. But eveyone has radio, so you would go to Radio Shack and pick up a FM modulator. It connected to a standard 2.5mm headphone jack & translates the signal into a FM signal. You turn your radio to that station & you have instant music via radio waves from your laptop. I think they run about $30.

the posibilities are endless with a laptopin the car except the problem is making easy to use while you are driving unless you have a passengerin the car or some kind or remote system it you will have to stop but a cheap lap top for your car is not hard to find. tye go out of date so fast. the lcd screen thing would be easy but will it be easy to see the windows gui enviorment and actually use it there.im jsut writing my thoughts as they come but it would be very cool def let us know what you have done

webcam would be neat especialy down the 1/4 mile
Problem with webcam is that it can't capture fast motion. Video would come out all blurry. Nothing beats a good old camcorder or better yet a DV camera.

This idea has crossed my mind millions of times. I'm in the process of doing the samething except i haven't found a labtop for a good price. I'm using it for tuning, music, movies, etc. The only problem i have is where to mount it. one idea is the passenger side airbag area. Any others?
