My exhaust buzzes around 3800rpm, so I went to remove the cat heat shield today. Removed all the bolts and got the bottom off. I put all the bolts back in to hold the top down since It looks like cutting is required to remove it?. This helped the rattle a little, but not totally. How safe is it to remove the top part of the cat heat shield, will it heat up the underbody of my car any more? Also, is cutting needed to remove it, or do you just have to angle it right to get it out? Thanks!

From my personal experiance I cut mine because I believe it's easier. Also i've been driving with out the heat shield for past 6 months and did not have any trouble regarding to it.

Yeah, you probably have to cut if off if you want to remove it.

I was having the same problem, except instead of cutting it, I used two big metal clamps on both ends of the cat. No more rattling since, the clamps hold the heatsheild from moving! Took me 5min to do

These are the metal clamps I am talking about to insure there is no confusion.
