Bumpstops prevent your chassis from hitting the shock when you compress the shock to far down. If you repeatedly hit your shocks with your chassis, eventually you will crack the shock housing.

If you lower your car substantially, you will need to shave your bumpstops otherwise your chassis will rest on the shock. Shave too much and the bumpstop will be ineffective in abosorbing the impact of your chassis hitting the shock.

only cut them if the springs you get tell you to.
the eibach pro-kit for example just says to cut the back ones a little bit.

i agree when i lowered my car i cut my bump stops in half and my car rides fine.ive lowered a few cars in my day and ive always cut the bump stops and ive never had a problem.all my friends that have lowered their cars did the same and they never had a problem so in my opinion you should cut them in half and you shouldnt have a problem, but remember when you do that dont cut them wrong or your car is going to ride f**ked up.well good luck and welcome to the world of lowered cars have fun!

How can you cut them wrong? I'm about to put some H&R Stage 2 springs, I haven't read anywhere where it says to cut the bumpstops, but I probably should I guess, especially since I'm gonna be riding on stock shocks for awhile.

if u dont cut them enough ur car will bottom out giving u a really uncomfortable ride.. the reason we have to cut the bumpstops is because when ur lowered.. u have to compensate for the lessened shock travel..

it's kinda like if the bed you slept on got smaller.. lets pretend ur the bumpstop.. if ur bed got smaller and we didnt cut off ur head or part of ur legs to compensate for the smaller space.. then u wouldnt fit on the bed anymore.. he he..

i wouldnt suggest cutting the front ones to much. i cut them in half on my car, and now my skunk2 upper control arms are hitting the shock tower and is making a hole in it. i need to replace my bump stops and get the holes welded up.

If you have aftermarket struts you shouldnt have to worry about cutting your bumpstops. Agood idea is too just get aftermarket ones from the start i know money be tight but why not just do it right.
