So we set the mechanical timing 5 separate times tonight. When the car is cold without the diagnostic port in at 1250 cold its right on 16 degrees. As it's warming up it slowly backs off. As soon as the car gets to temp it's getting closer to 0. As soon as I put the diagnostic port in and try to change it, the timing is all backwards. Even the distributor all the way advanced it's still barely at 0 and RPMs are sporadic by about 100 up or down. Checked the key way in the pulley and no visible damage, same with the timing gear on the crank no visible damage. We left it idling for about 30 minutes and checking in 5 minute intervals, and it'll be at 4 degrees, then back to 0, without touching anything. When you try to rev it cuts off at 2700 rpm everytime. After letting the fan cycle a few times the rpms go between 780 to 810.
