In my teg, at a red light I rev to about 1.5k in D4, when the light turns green I put it into D3, I listen for it to shift to second gear then I put it into 2, then I put it into 1 for a second to get my revs up, then I put it to D3, then I ride it till it needs to be in D4. Is that a good way for the car to handle?

What ways do you guys launch/race in your auto's?

in auto... i either put it in D3 and "GUN" it, or i start in 1st and go to redline then shift in each gear sequentially... why the f**k would you want to downshift from a red light? MAybe if you are going from a roll you might down shift it to a gear where the rpms are up higher, but you shouldn't play with your auto like that revving then downshifting to get revs up and sh*t. It seems like you are using your auto to "double clutch" like you would in a standard... Well your auto is an auto don't downshift like that especially it is horrible for your car. Upshifting isn't as bad but still isn't good. Accept the fact that you have an auto and unless you can win the race by going in d4 all the time then just don't race. Don't try tricky stunts with your auto transmission to win. Get mods. Nuff Said.

When the light hits green, i gun it in D3 starting with the revs at 1.5k from when the light was red. when i'm already driving and i hear it turn to second gear, I shift to second gear for a second, shift down to first gear for a split second to get my revs up, then i shift back to second gear to finish it off, then when i hear the car is in third gear, I shift to D3 then work my way to D4.

NO. DoNT DO THAT!!!!

I've said it before and I'll say it again.
You have an automatic
ACCEPT IT
I know I have.

Do a search on this topic its been talked over WAY too much. Your going to kill your tranny.

Please for the sake of your car tranny (if it's not already destroyed)just let it shift on it's own.

I agree. D4 and power brake doing anything else...like shifting from gear to gear and down shifting, is retarded. The transmision does it automatically, hence the name automatic transmision.

I have an auto in my 96 teg & I do the same as most of you have done. At a dead halt, drop it in 1st & just manual shift it. Rolling punch, I'll slap it into D3 & floor it. It has never hurt anything for 2 years that I've been doing that.

Up to date now, I don't have the stock engine anymore. I now run a full B20B motor & the auto is dying cause of it's low end torque. With heavier rims & 13" break rotors in the front, at a dead idle, I would floor it with the B20 & it would peel out off the line, chirp 2nd, chirp 3rd, & torque steer real hard into 4th & that was all leaving it in D4 from the start.

Tranny swaps don't cost all that much. I'm swapping mine out next week to an LS 5-speed for under $800. If you can do that, I would recommend it over what we do to our autos :)

I got a great deal on the tranny from a friend of mine. He just bought an LS motor for his civic & the guy he bought it from told him to take the tranny too, but he didn't need it. He sold me the 94-01 LS tranny w/ flywheel for $250. Also gave me the clutch, pressure plate, & manual ECU to go with all that for $30 more. one of my best friends, who happens to be my mechanic also, is going to be taking care of the installation.

Even without hookups like that, I priced around a few places locally in Dallas, Tx & I was getting quotes for around $900-1500 installed.

The going rate on a 94-01 LS 5-speeds are as follows:

Hydraulic - $1000-1200
Cable - $800

Place Racing also makes a kit for the cable tranny's to convert them over to hydraulic. It is actually a better way to do that & cheaper in the long run, cause if you ever have to replace a cable tranny, it is cheaper than having to buy another Hydraulic one :)

Just to give you an idea on some of the basic parts costs, go to www.sohfast.com

They have pretty much everything listed for trannies of all generations of tegs.

Yeah, I will switch to 5speed cause I miss my being able to double-clutch and everything. I miss that sporty feel. I would have looked more to find an Integra with 5speed but I've always wanted this car so I was just happy to get it. I'm kinda broke now but the manual switch is something in my future forsure.

D4 and power brake to get the rev up. nothing else you do will matter aside from catastrophic tranny failure.
What means to powerbreak to get the rev up?? Becuase that was my point of down-shifting was to get the rev's up. So when I gun it, I pull on the e-break just a little bit and it will increase my rev's? Please explain
