hey guys. Well yes i have an automatic Integra LS and i wanted to know if you can lauch with an automatic like you can do with a manual. I heard that some of my automatic friends have tried starting in neutral and reving it up, then popping it into 1st with their autos. I just wanted to know if this is the stupidest idea ever or not. Does it kill the trannie? Thanks for your help.

one of MANY:

Punch "Automatic" into the advanced search feature and you will come up with A LOT of prior threads on this subject.

Here's yet another:

I really don't have the time or inclination to list every single thread that pertains to this subject. Use the 'search' feature, thats why it's there.

Justin is a funny guy. You see, he cant accept the fact that someone who is new to this board and boards in general might not think of a search function, (hes only posted 5 times) or might not use it right. So instead of either answering their question and then reffering them to the search for future reference, or nicely asking them to search he likes to make a little sarcastic comment and send them on their way to find another post. Not that you're not right justin, there are alot of other threads that could have answered this, but it doesnt hurt the board when people who dont know better post things like this, and I dont know why the hell you would care or let it get to you (its a message board!?), so maybe we could do without the sarcasm and try and maintain the easygoing and helpfull atmosphere that this board is known and respected for.

If you like your car then do not do a neutral dump...it might not hurt your car then but it does wear the tranny and can lead to premature tranny failure...do yourself a favor and do not let them do this to your car...hell line up with one of them and see how much or a diff it makes. If you want to have good launches, which is hard in a auto, then change your torque convertor. I have talked to people that have done this and it does give you a great launch...but it is not cheap because you have to purchase a new performance oriented torque con and have it installed...not a bolt on part that is for sure...and then you will have a fast car off the line.

ok since no one really answered his question, i'll tell you what i do. DO NOT DO A NEUTRAL DROP.. that just kills your tranny. instead, do a brake stand (leave it in D4, gas it while having ur left foot on the brake). At around 2500 rpm, let go of the brake. This method is a lot less stressful on ur tranny than the neutral drop.

I will tell you everything I know about getting the most out of your automatic tranny. Lets start out with the dont's

1)Dont neutral drop.
2)Dont upshift and downshift.
3)Not smart to street race anyway.

To get the most out of my automatic what I do is keep it maintained for starters. I keep it in D4 or when im stopped I will put it in D3 and LEAVE it there this way I avoid 4th gear all together to get a better pull until I stop again. I also dont let the car go past about 60-70mph in D3. If your already driving in D4 dont let it upshift to 4th and punch it while its in 3rd and it will kick back to 2nd on its own and I find my car to be an animal when this happens.

When I do this its for my personal pleasure and to suprise the $hit out of much faster cars that want to know what I have done to my car, and when I tell them stock they rub their eyes in disbelief. My car has 185,500 miles on it and it is in perfect condition. The fluid is pink and changed every 15k. The dealer asked if I had work done to the tranny because it felt quicker than most tegs to him. But Its not, its stock =)

from my experience.... 2500 is a good place to start but me id launch from D3 let it run first gear, pop it down to two when it comes close to redline shift up to D3, by then you should be at the end without worry. or you can just put it in d3 and just stomp on it. on the 2500 rpm you have to learn that one on your own. Dont press the brake too far or they will lock and itll be a big tire burn on the ground when you leave. lightly hold down the break and ease on the gas enough to give it a somewhat lunge forward. let go and just floor your right foot.
HAve fun.

if you are gonna race an automatic, brake launch is probably the best way. Dont N-bomb it or shift or whatever. When I first started driving(16 yrs), I didnt know anything and was stupid, I've done all that stuff before, neutral drops and shifting like a manual, and right now my trans is terrible.
