98 Integra timing belt cover

There are some follow up questions that I forgot to ask yesterday. When I opened up the engine cover last week, I saw some black shaving dust collecting on top of the timing belt. My friend said that's the timing belt cover is warping and got shaved by the belt when it's spinning. He also said that, it's common since my car is old. So I just vacuum it and close it up.

I looked up some parts on ebay and they are a 2-part front cover: middle and bottom.
  • Should I just replace middle cover (save me like 50 bucks), or both middle and bottom covers?
  • If I just use the old ones, would that cause any problem in the long run? There's no sign of the old belt getting "scratched" or anything by the cover.
  • Thanks.

Just look for the wear marks and replace the pieces rubbing.

It would not be necessary to replace the timing belt covers, based on the description of your issue. Even if the t-belt cover deformation is present, it shall not cause any significant damage to the t-belt.
