2000 GSR Takes a Long time to Start

Good morning,

My 2000 GSR is taking longer and longer to start. It happens mainly on cold start (sitting for 5 or more hours). But it has been gradually getting worse. It took 9 cranks this morning to start and the engine was sputtering as it turned on.

I got the car not too long ago. It is a stock GSR with nothing done to it. The previous owner had it sitting for a while without driving it. When I got the car, I did all the fluid changes, changed the battery, alternator, water pump/timing belt, clutch and thermostat.

When I started noticing the extra cranks, I changed the fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, fuel pump relay, spark plugs. So if you guys can give me some knowledge it would be awesome.

Also I don't know if this is relevant, but there was a kill switch installed by the previous owner. It was connected to a wire under the passenger dash. But when I got a new alarm system the kill switch stopped working. Thanks.

Have you checked and made sure timing is good? If so, check distributor/spark and make sure valves are properly adjusted. If all good, back track that kill switch and see where it leads and pull it out.
