G3 Coilover/Shocks/Springs Install      Change Background Color
NOTE: There's lots of things during this tough install that could go wrong, such as frozen and/or rusted out bolts, and there is no way I can demonstrate ahead of time what to do about these. This article shows the exact install of my particular car, your install may go easier, it may go harder, but don't take this article as anything more than a general guide on what is going on

A common DIY topic on the forums is the self installation of springs/struts/coilovers. The following 17 pages will demonstrate step by step what's involved to help you gauge if you can do it yourself

Car: MorningZ's 95 SE
Install By: swiftllamagone, roger, and MorningZ

Let's start with stuff you'll need:

  • Friends - no, i'm not saying you need a life, but this project is MUCH MUCH easier when there is multiple people involved
  • Wheel Removal Stuff
  • Metric Socket Set - at some point you'll need: 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, and 17mm. If you have a 1/2" drive rachet, use it! (instead of the standard 3/8" drive)
  • "Breaker Bar" - Piece of pipe used to get some more leverage on loosening bolts (if you don't understand what I mean, I'll be pointing this out later
  • Metric "open end" wreches - 14mm and 17mm in size
  • Floor Jack and Jack Stands
  • Metric Allen Key Set
  • About 3-4 hours

  • As usual, keep in mind that the following is not the only way to do the install, but it's just a recommended way :-)
All right, now that we have that out of the way, let's begin by showing the car beforehand and what components we are installing....
