"Late"? I'm not "late"! I have simply advanced beyond your lowly mortal concept of "time". |

I guess I should probably post a recap myself, eh? I've gone through my pictures, but haven't transferred them yet, and still need to edit them. I'll have them posted sometime in the next couple days or so...
Met up with Paul and Santos in Gainesville, VA at 4:30AM Friday, waited around for about a half an hour BS'ing and then headed out a little after 5. We were scheduled to meet up with the Northeast Caravan and the rest of the VA crew at 9:30. Rolled into Christiansburg at about 8:35, and decided to get some breakfast while we waited. The first leg of the trip was uneventful. It rained for all of 15 seconds, just long enough for me to close my sunroof after getting hit in the face by one single rain drop. Bambi's cousin was checking us out from the shoulder of I-66W. Saw a few cops, thought we were going to get pulled over by one, when we blew past them at 78/65, but they just looked at us as we drove by.
After meeting up with the rest of the crew in Christiansburg, things started to get interesting. We ran into the torrential downpours that the Oklahoma/Texas crew had been held up by the day prior. We found the single stupidest Sonic Drive-In ever. 8 parking stalls? Who are they kidding? Shore's GPS was telling him to take I-40 to Exit 407 and go down through Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. Mine said to go up to Exit 398, and go down 411 to US-129. Should have followed mine. We got into Pigeon Forge, TN at 3PM. Then hit the stupidest bumper to bumper traffic ever. There was no reason for it. We FINALLY arrived at the Resort at about 6:15-6:30. But, if we had followed my GPS, we would have saved a couple hours, but we wouldn't have seen that AWESOME Elantra, the upside-down mansion, the Titanic, or had that great experience with the Appalachian American in the Chevy Pickup.
I can honestly say that I don't think I've ever had so much fun in a car going 30mph...
Things I've learned:
- You make significantly better time traveling alone, or in a small group.
- Keeping a convoy of 11 cars in line in bumper-to-bumper traffic is impossible.
- Remembering 70 peoples' names over the course of one weekend is also impossible.
- Pontiac drivers are slow, and crabby.
- B18s get REALLY sluggish with the A/C on above 5,000 ft.
- Do not attempt to drink Gatorade while driving on the Dragon.
- If you don't want to drive to eat, go to the Grill, but don't get Pepper Jack cheese!!
- The police monitor all radio frequencies, and they're not afraid to talk to you!
Unidentified Teg Driver: Stay close so he can't pull out!
Trooper: I'll have you know driver, I'll pull out any time I want to, I'll just turn on my blue lights and you will ALL pull over!
Amanda: Well, if that trooper wasn't so busy talking...
Trooper: I AM that trooper!
Me: So, officer, how are you enjoying your Saturday?
*Silence*
-----------------------
Steve - Thank you again for cranking it to 11 to bang this weekend out. Even though we were all expecting about half of the turnout we got, it worked out well. I'm still not amazed at how many people showed up! Good work man! It was a pleasure meeting you, and I'll see ya next year.
James - Your Gen1 is immaculate. It was a pleasure cruising with ya on the Dragon, and was nice talking with you Sunday. Take car of that beautiful car man!
Tony & Johanna - It was great meeting you both, and hanging out with JERRY! Friday night.
Peyton - I'm jealous of your paint. It was nice meeting you, finally.
Mahlon - You're freaking awesome dude. Takes a special kind of person to tape his lip purple!
Clint, Brent, Greg, etc... - It was awesome running with you guys trying to play catch-up on the Skyway cruise. It was a lot of fun.
Sami - Your car is insane bro. Even though we really didn't get to hang out much over the weekend, it was nice chattin with ya a bit at the overlook on Sunday.
Joe & Amanda - It was great to meet you both. Amanda, your cupcakes are the shizz. Joe, hurry up and get some plates on that Subie! LOL.
VA Crew - It was awesome riding down with y'all. Mike, Thanks for taking up that spare bed in my room...Saved me $100!
NE Crew - Thanks for meeting up with us on the ride down...and eff that traffic!
TX Crew - You guys are wild. I love it! Great times meeting you all.
Travis - You're out of your mind man. Driving from Kalifornia, to drive on a road. That's just lunacy. Hope to see you again next year!
Dane & *Girlfriend* I'm sorry, but I can't remember your name, you guys are cool. It was good talking with you what brief times we did.
Everyone else that I'm forgetting to mention...It was great meeting all of you, it's just that there were so many people it's really impossible to name every single one! LOL.
I'm looking forward to next year, and I've already blocked off the weekend in my calendar.

*pause*

I thought so too steve, it's pretty epic if i do say so myself.
And I totally forgot to mention what made this past weekend EVEN BETTER (hard to imagine). I went to check my email in the lodge and found this wonderful bit of news! Lol, I forgot to mention it to anyone who mentioned my Killswitch shirt at the photoshoot (trish and I think mike?)
Quote: Hey John,
Congratulations! You're a winner in The Return, the official Killswitch
Engage contest. Can I have a drum roll please? And your prize is
==================================
Two (2) concert tickets, a chance to watch Killswitch Engagešs set from the
stage and a meet and greet with the band before the concert..
So really, I've done some stellar stuff this year so far, but the dragon run definitely takes the cake... I'm going to make an attempt to go down next year, atleast during the week if I can't go during the weekend due to the gf's bday.
