Im gonna pull the icu and solder in a new capacitor, hope it works, I need rear defrost bad, the beeping sometimes for no reason is annoying too, but I usually just crank the radio when it does that. But at any rate, there are tons of post on fixing it, but is there any play by plays to getting it out? I don't know if its a 15 mintue job, or a hour or so. I need my car to drive, so have to plan accordingly to take it down a couple hours, a fifteen minute repair is no big deal to slide in somewhere. I am a certified mechanic, so I have any tool I need and am experienced, so I can do this repair, just wondering what to expect.
ICU removal is a bitch doesn't help me a bit, please post something productive.

Replacing the ICU isn't really as hard as people make it out to be. It is located on the backside of the fusebox near the drivers feet. There are two 10mm bolts holding the fusebox to the vehicle(top and bottom) and a harness at the top that should be unclipped. You can get a little free space without removing the harness, but I would recommend it. Remove the fusebox and look on the backside. There is a plastic box roughly the size of a pack of cigarettes clipped into the back of the fusebox, that is the ICU. From here you could replace it completely or repair it and reinstall.

Another option would be buying one that is known to work and swapping it out so you don't have as much down time on your car. There is a guy on G2ic selling quite a few right now. I have bought parts from him before and he seems like a legit guy. Heres his e-mail if you want to buy one from him. greazemunkey73@yahoo.com

That is a really accurate description for repairing. i did the same. It took all of about 30 mins just cause I had to go to Radio Shack. I would suggest trying to get a known working one and replacing just because the paths on mine were too damaged that a new capacitor simply didn't fix it. Good Luck.

did it today. Not to tough to get out, just took the bottom loose and got enough room to get my hands in there.
Both capacitors were leaking, replaced em both, still no worky.
Guess I need another one.

wondering why everyone is consistent on calling the icu black, because mine was gray.
I know that was it though, correct place, and the burnt capacitors from the pics and all.

I don't know where in my post I said it was black? I could have told you it was grey, I've seen plenty. I was just trying to help...

no, you didn't, thanks for your help though.
There is a write up with pictures floating around on here. It says its black, and it also shows black it the pictures. I am honestly just wondering why mine is gray, not bashing anyone about it.

To my understanding they are all gray. I've never seen a black ICU. If you need one that works try emailing that guy I posted earlier. I know he has several working ones for sale.

ok, I will sometime, not an immediate need, would be nice to have the rear defrost though.
but more prevalent is that my heater sucks unless the engine is like 3 grand, just flushed the core today and it is super clear, flows great, better than great, so does the water pump out the heater outlet when it running, so no a flow issue. Ran it, refilled and bled out. same as before, both hoses are super hot, the core is working, but at idle the vent temp drops to nothing. great in the summer, but sucks bad in the winter. the blend door controls are working fine, and the mode controller is working fine too. Maybe one of the blend doors is broken away from the control arms? Or maybe one of the po dropped a pen down the defroster or something. If I pull the blower motor can I reach my hand up in there maybe? I have long and skinny arms by the way, I am 6 3 and weigh 155 soaking wet, so I can reach stuff most people cant lol.
