Thanks! I'm excited to get my part orders going as well. Its really not looking too bad thus far which is a good thing. I'm making sure I get quality tooling bc I'm sure this is not the last time I will be building a motor.

Okay well at least it may not be abnormal. I'm definitely going to ask at the machine shop, but I think it should be good to go with just a clean up hone.

I had some engine parts in my room while I was in college, the only problem I had with it was that my room smelt like oil for a little while.

haha I know exactly what you mean, it was powerful at first and apparently still is bc my roomates tell me so. However, I don't notice the smell at all anymore, I guess I've grown used to it.

I just checked them all and they are all calibrated and ready to go.

Now I'm on the hunt for two nice dial bore gages. Looking at Mitutoyo 1.4"-2.5" and a 2"-6". Hopefully that will be purchased soon.

Called a machine shop and got an estimate for hot tanking the block, the head, and doing a clean up hone on the cylinders for less than 100.00. I just need to pull the valves out of the head and strip the remaining parts off the block.

Excellent, will do! Maybe I can make some of my money back on this stuff.

My next big purchase has been made. I picked up a very nice set of Mitutoyo dial bore gages on ebay. It was a steal for the price so I couldn't resist. $600.00 later I have these:



Last few items on my tool to buy list are:

Set of rubber mallets
Bolt stretch gauge
Tap and die set

Then I should be ready to get this thing back together. I still have not had a chance to tear the rest of it apart as my thesis writing has been eating up all my time, but it will happen soon.

Well not much else has been done with the engine. I recieved my set of dial bore gages and they are in great condition and a complete set! It was definitely expensive, but well worth it for the quality. Tonight I plan on tearing down the rest of the engine so I will have some pictures up of that.

Steve, as far as my plans go I certainly hope to have it all done, but its going to be very dependent on graduating. My plan currently is to graduate sometime in June then taking the whole summer off from everything so thats when the work will get done. After 7 years of school with no summer breaks I need something. Its tough to say at this point, but I'm going to keep shooting for those goals.

I have a stretch gauge you can borrow. I also have piston ring compressors on the site too. But, if you want to buy them regardless, that's totally up to you.

I'll most likely be renting the stretch gauge when the time comes.

Tonight I spent some time disassembling the head and pulling the last few components off the block. The block is now ready to be hot tanked and the head has a few more things left. I need to pick up a valve stem seal remover to pull those. Also still need to remove the rockers.





The valve guide appears to be broken... not sure if this will affect anything or not, anyone know?

I do believe its due to heat, but from searching around I don't think its out of the ordinary. The last trip on this motor was my trip back home from the dragon which is all highway miles. I had it running pretty lean on the highway at low load.

I may look into getting 4 egt's for when it goes back together.... Just a thought at this point, but I would love to tune timing off of egt's.

You would only need one EGT at runner #3 I thought?
