Post #DC2H22-39

Thought you might like to see how the engine comes out through the hatchÖ

Had to get it way up there, since the car is up on jack standsÖ

Itíll be sitting here a while, until I can get all the sheet metal work done.

Looks kinda empty, huh?

I donít think youíve seen the new lower bumper support. The original one went away with the spare tire well. This one is made from 5/8 x 0.035 4130 tubing; very light and very strong.

Thanks for your support and inspiration!
Dave

Ingenious bumper support! If anything, I think it was the perfect switcharoo.. are you still aiming toward 50/50? Everything looks to be right on schedule..! Kudos..!!!

Does having the motor in the rear change a whole lot in terms of replacing parts or maintanance?

I bet its probably been posted before, but are you planning to build the motor at all (a few forged internals never hurt anyone )?

I wouldn't imagine.. maybe some removing/shimming or even relocating the most.. as for replacing, that would be rather fun.. lol

Hell, I think that a part of the fun of owning that car would be taking it to shops and messing with mechanics.

Post #DC2H22-40

Special thanks to Mike Miller (IntegraMic at Honda-Tech) for the front half of this quarter panel. Half a quarter is hard to find, as most places will only sell you a full fourth of a car. The flare is finished, and Iím working on the wheel wells on both sides.

Passenger door molding shaved.

There is a small weld at the very top, rear corner of the door panel, which was broken on both sides. Because of this, cracks were propagating down the inner door panel, which allowed a lot of flex (squeaks and rattles) in the door. The pic shows this area after welding it back up.

Here are a couple of pics of a mocked up side scoop, made with cardboard, to give me a rough idea of how to shape them. The idea is for the outer face of the scoop to be parallel to the car centerline, with the back edge flush with the wheel opening. In other words, the width of the mouth is the same as the width of the flare.

Drivers door molding shaved.

The shifter plate looks a lot better painted. I used 500-degree paint, which contains ceramic, and baked it in the oven. Itís a lot like powder coat.

This is the power steering pump mounting bracket, which is about 5 lbs. of cast iron.

I spent about an hour making a replacement, saving about 4.5 lbs., which doesnít sound like much, but since it is mounted so high and to the left side, I figured, what the heck?

Thanks,
Dave

great work Dave.........

Jojo: I think the maintenance would be a bit harder in terms of labor when the motor is in the back, in fact its a PITA on an MR2, in a lot of cases it might be easier to drop the motor on the MR2, but since the teg has a big hatch, and it seems like the motor has a lot of room back there it might not be as much as a problem.

Dave what ar your thought on the firewall in the rear? I dont know if I missed it in a previous post.
