I’ve finally finished the fabrication for the HVAC installation. This series of pics shows the covers made for the holes in the firewall shown in the previous post.







This pic is of the underside of the cowl and back of the firewall on the right. Starting from the lower left corner and moving towards the upper right corner, the first oblong hole is for the A/C lines, and the second oblong hole is for the wiring harness. Just above and to the right of that, you can see a plate welded horizontally between the firewall and cowl, just in front of the blower inlet hole. The blower (and entire HVAC assembly) had to be shifted forward such that the front of the blower inlet was open into the cockpit (which means about 30% of the blower would have been in constant re-circulate mode). This plate blocks that off. I used an old, plastic NCSU “Wolfpack” license plate to make a transition for the blower inlet hole in the cowl to the blower inlet duct. The plastic tube on the right is a sunroof drain. Just below that is where the ECU used to be.

sweet man....as far as painting the 'old' engine bay....are you going to grind the welds smooth or worry about any of that? or are you going to carpet it and make it a trunk in the front?

I should have said that this was the "as welded" stage. I still have grinding and finishing yet. All of the joints will be seam sealed and the entire chassis repainted. You guys are very observant!

Just a quick note though. Since you're hacking and welding things together, aren't u concerned about the structural integrity of some of the parts? Like some of the suspension parts (linkages and the like) u sure won't snap under stress?

when i first read this thread when it started I wasnt sure that this project would even get this far.... But Dave you are an amazing dude to do this kind of work and to have that kind of knowledge. Wow, I never took the time to look at this b4 tonight, and I'm slapping myself for it. I'm still amazed after reading about it for the past 2 hours. First I'd like to say your work is amazing and has gotten me even more excited for my auto tech school I start in April. It's really awesome seing someone with such dedication for a project and having an idea of what they're doing. Second, It's a DAMN SHAME that the sport compact magazine industry hasn't gotten in on documenting this project. I pity you Honda Tuning, Sport Compact Car, Import Tuner, Super Street, HCI etc. This project is too big not to be publicly documented. Those magazines always have their "project cars" that are half assed documentaries of installing clutches and intakes, nothing to this magnitude. And I'll say if they were running something like this, I'd be sure to buy each monthly issue to keep up to date. Well I guess it's just an exclusive for us forum ppl.
All luck to you, you're doing a wonderful job and you're a great inspiration.

id just wanna say that i feel lucky that your part of team integra otherwise most of us probably would have never herd of this until wayyyy after it was finished. i think its awesome that we get to see this in progress.
