Hey Casey - when you remove the high pressure side line, (the side that gets the new brass barb fitting) how does the thing come off?
Last night I soaked the threads with PB Blaster and went at the hex nut with an open face 14mm wrench. After what seemed like a couple of small turns, I realized I might be stripping the head so I stopped. Since the line attached to it is hard, did you grab on the line and use that to twist it off? |

Same thing happened to me, it was extremely hard to take off, I soaked it a couple of times in PB plaster, and found a very nice position where I coudnt strip it and just gave it all I had till it came out lol

if your ps setup is failing (i.e pump wine) you might as well just cut the hard line close to the fitting and use a 14mm deep socket and loosen the fitting. That's what I did today. Stupid me, forgot to get the fluid out of the rack so now it feels like Im turning the car at a standstill, while moving. Gotta drain it tmr! Thanks meltman, you saved me from breaking my ps rack from a bad pump

I just did this project, it took me a while but only because i had difficulty with the pressure line (the fitting into the rack), the line kept wanting to spin with the fitting, i couldnt prevent it, and eventually the line twisted enough to snap.
aside from this, all went well! it is pretty easy, but i would recommend getting the hardest bolts first, (pressure line fitting, bolt holding it down right on top of the rack, and the one by the alt) if rust is at all an issue like it is here in Nova Scotia. for those wondering, the imperial fitting pictured in the write-up threads in by hand, and very easily. the difference in thread pitch isnt worth the trouble of finding the metric version. Thanks a lot meltman for the DIY! this was very helpful. very much apprecieated!!! |

A concern I didn't even think of before i did this, is so:
I did the Delete, but what if i get in an accident, could it come back on me as my fault because of the delete? |

Yes I have autocrossed with the delete. There are a couple more bolts holding the cooler on a gsr. Think you need to pull the bumper to remove it.

When the lines are off, slowly turn the wheels side to side, to get excess fluid out, this is the fluid that gave you the hydraulic assist, and isn't doing you any good except a work out. By turning the wheel side to side, you move the piston in your rack assembly from lock to lock, and any fluid that would give you a hard time outta there.(fluids cannot be compressed) This process leaves some fluid in the rack for lubrication, however just enough that when the piston goes to a lock (on either side) the fluid level isn't enough that the piston has to displace it, instead air is moved (through the loop hose) The side to side turning of the wheel is all the draining that is recommended for this procedure. |
