Are you talking about King Motorsports that is tuning it for you? If so, do they have suggestions for cooling?
I believe on the hwy the fans are off, right? And if they are on, they are possibly slowing down air flow rather than helping it. I think the biggest problem with turbo integra's is running on the hwy with airflow having to cool the car through the intercooler-condenser-radiator. We need the radiator up front, then the condenser, then the intercooler. Another thing I was thinking is to cut a 12 inch slit right above where the front license plate holes are and then mount an oil cooler there. It would get fresh air from outside without anything in front of it and still pump some more air into the engine bay. That or it looks like maybe the jdm type r front end has another air entry point in the same area that could be used for an oil cooler.

I forgot to mention that those temps occurred at hwy speeds (70mph and 60mph respectively). Seems to not be much of an issue at lower speeds so I don't think the fan is an issue since it should only come on below 40mph-ish? Either case, around town the temps are right around 190~200F depending on the weather.
King pretty much said what I already knew but haven't done so (remove A/C, wrap DP and turbo << I NEED to get to it). I did manage to get a hold of a civic condenser for free! But, I'm not going to do anything with it yet -- going to see how wrapping the DP and turbo does first. I did think about cutting my bumper but the thought of it scares me; don't want to ruin a good bumper. There's probably a better way of getting more air into the engine bay; diffuser anyone? But correct, the location of the current oil cooler isn't optimum but it's still doing its job. The oil temps at those temps were right around 210F-ish. This is still huge improvements compared to no oil cooler so the battle continues! |

UPDATE!
Just bought myself a Wavetrac LSD... Question: Since I'm going to be opening up my transmission - what else should I replace while I'm at it? It's easy enough to just rebuild the whole thing but I'd rather not if I don't have to; tranny only has 85k miles and no current issues. |

Order an input shaft bearing and a countershaft bearing to have on hand when you open it up. If there is any sign of wear on either bearing, go ahead and replace them.
Or since it is already apart, you can replace them. Whichever you prefer. Doesn't hurt. My ISB when out at about 130k so at 85, you'll have alot of time |

Cruising on the highway at 70 my oil temps in pretty much all weather is around 200-210. Cruising at 50 will put it around 180-190.
Even with a full size mishi rad my car runs hotter then Id like. I think its just because the intercooler is so damn big it blocks most of the good air flow. Even though I hate they way they look, the rear hood props would be a real good idea. We'll see what happens when I go to a half size and full wrapped ram horn and turbo blanket. I think alot of it is radiant heat

I am jealous of your wavetrac. Also if you've got a gsr transmission most everyone converts to ball bearings (use type-r ones NOT b16 ones) as they are a million times easier to shim. - well actually you cant really shim the tapered roller bearings. There's a preload measurement for them. |

Thanks for the response guys.
Took me awhile to make a decision on getting an LSD, I mean it's mostly a DD. But after numerous AutoX events and soon to be track day, I'd like to be able to pull through corners. Then that other problem was - WHICH LSD? HA, to much... But I think I've made a decision >> I'm going to go with a basic rebuild kit (seals and carbon-lined synchros) from Synchrotech - I'm going to take MeltMan's advice and look into converting the differential bearings as well. Only thing I can't decide on is to spend the extra $$$ on doing the sleeves or not (suppose I'll find out when I inspect) - I've never had any problems so hopefully they're pretty cherry... Quote:
I did see a significant change in just engine bay temps when I wrapped my ramhorn - I can only assume I can see the same advantages when I wrap the other two. |
